Trailer: 2007 13 ft Scamp / 2000 Ford Ranger
Posts: 10
Hi
We have all seen 20 year old scamps selling for
half what was their new price.
But look at this.
The base price of a 2003 13' was $6,095
The base price of a 2007 13' is $7,595
$1,500 difference.
$1,500 divided by 4 years
$375 a year increase,
with out options
20 years times $375 = $7,500
$7,500 + $7,595 = $15,095
My 2007 will be about $9,400 with options
In 20 years I should be able to get
about $7,000 So
$2,400 divided by 20 = $120 per year
Unbeleivable?
NO
Scamp 13 is the lightest weight 3 section trailer
Can be towed by a bicycle
What will the price of gas be 20 years from now
The last price I got on a Casita 2007 13' standard was $9,894
with out options + $2,000 in options $11,894
So I should have a resell between $5,000 to $7,000
For 20 years $10.00 to $18.33 per month.
Of coarse modifications will increase this
particulary the electrical and refrigeration.
And don't ever forget taxes and mantainance and insurance.
But you know, an eggspectant Father deserves to dream all he wants.
Thanks

John,

Here's some more base info you can play with... in 1980 I bought a used 1978 base model Scamp 13' for $2150. I think new ones were $2495 in 1980. In 1981 I bought a new Jeep Scrambler for $6900. I shudder to think what my salary was. It was a stretch to buy the Scamp!

everyone! get out your rockers! tell the kiddies how you used to have to get up 1/2 hour before you went to bed...

I bought my first "House" in the late 70s. It was a 2 bedroom 14x70 mobile home in Oregon.

4k. Used, 1972 model.

The original sales receipt came with my 1980 Burro (Interesting how folks keep that stuff for years and pass it down.

5553 with all options but air conditioning.

I paid 2700 for it in 04, and it needed frame work.

oh yeah.. I now make more in less than a day than I did in 2 weeks back then.. and I STILL can't justify a new trailer LOL!

At least back then, it would have been flat out of the question, now I just ponder whether I want the payments..

Awright Madame Geezer ... thanks for the trip down memory lane, but...

I was just giving him some historical data specifically on the Scamp 13 from which to extrapolate whether or not his hypothesis for the value of these trailers in twenty years had historical foundation in the previous twenty years' appreciation taking into account inflation and "real" dollars.

What, specifically, was it that YOU were trying to add?

Oh... I'm good... I'm SO pleased with myself...

Roger

Ok, ok... I'm bad... send the monkeys... I'm going to my room now... but laughing all the way!!!!
