Scamp Bed Weight Capacities?

Anybody know the weight capacities for the beds in a 2011 Scamp 16. Particularly the bunks and side dinette.

Upper bunk capacity is 100#. Lower bunk and dinette are strong and should keep 300# I believe.

There have been numerous posts about folks exceeding the upper bunk weights on the front goucho (in bunk bed mode). I certainly wouldn't want to be the person on the botton if it falls. It would ruin a camping trip where you should be making good memories not someone recovering from injuries.

Remember, the front portion is just fiberglassed to the front wall and there are hinge points. You are trusting the builder was having a good day.

When I picked up my Scamp from the factory, they told me the top bunk was good for 120 lbs. I'm paranoid about breaking it, so I just use it as a shelf.

Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't going to attempt it myself but I was wondering about my oldest (130 lbs) and my wife (who is lighter yet). I guess I'll just reserve the top bunk to my 2 youngest this season and worry about supports another year.
Has anyone put a body on the floor? Outside of the obvious obstruction to movement, are their any creative and stowable on the floor sleeping set-ups?

Only once intentionally - unintentionally is a good story

Just use a good camping mat and its no different than sleeping on the ground in a tent - just smoother.

Scamp should have drilled the lower support through the fiberglass and ran the supports all the way down to the floor or at least run a brace up from the floor to the bottom of the socket. Then they should have run beams under the top bunk to the poles for a more ridged structure. And maybe add a full length piano hinge. Then you could rely on it carrying some real weight.

Another thread a few weeks ago brought up an often overlooked factor: the glassed-in wood shelf that supports the front of the bunk. It, not the hinge, carries the weight. It was noted that undetected or neglected leaks in the window can cause the wood to rot inside the fiberglass.

I'm unable to find/post that link right now, but it did have some good ideas re strengthening the bunk set-up. If you use the Google search for "Scamp bunk" it should show up.

I know these are older posts, but just thought I would add a newer post. I called Scamp (Aug 19, 2020) to ask about the max weight of the top bunk and they said it was 200lbs. I have a 2005 (13ft), so asked if it would be same for older trailers and they said it's the same bed, same hinges etc- so yes the new and old were set for up to 200lbs. He said he wouldn't go over that.

I know someone else said it was 150lbs, so maybe it's a range. Either way, at least I can throw my teen up there if we're in bear country and he doesn't feel safe in a tent!

Last time we went camping he chose to stay in our friend's add-a-room tent rather than be with us. Gotta love the teen angst. lol
