Hi all! I'm researching how to fill out the appropriate DMV paperwork to sell a travel trailer (19' Escape
, so not a "camping trailer" or a trailer with a permanent plate).
The pink slip has a place to fill out an odometer reading. Obviously we don't have an odometer on the Escape
. Failure to fill out the odometer portion "may result in fines and/or imprisonment".
It seems ridiculous that this section even be on a pink slip (certificate of title) for a travel trailer. The form REG 138A clearly states that we don't need to fill out odometer mileage on it, so why no matching disclaimer for the attached pink slip (REG 17.30RS)?
When we bought the trailer it had been registered in OR, so we didn't have this hassle.
Should we fill out the odometer mileage as "0" and then mark the box that states "Odometer reading is not the actual mileage", and then certify under penalty of perjury that it's true? Or do we leave it blank despite the verbiage? What have others done when selling in CA?
