shipping company for a camping trailer

I am in the market for an eggcamper, since there are not that many out there near me in AZ. I am thinking to buy one new from the factory in Grandville, MI and have it ship to Phoenix, AZ. Anyone know a good shipping company I can look into?

Thanks,
Ben

Ben, give Eggcamper a call and see if they have a company that they use.

Did you ask EggCamper if they had a connection with a shipping company?

Last year we heard of a Scamp that was damaged in shipping and, apparently because the shipper was a regular carrier for Scamp, resolution was quick and proper. You might not have the same luck with someone you contract with yourself.

Most "Shippers" contract out to independent carriers. That proper sounding "International RV Shippers Ltd." might actually be "Sam & Dtr's Trucking" by the time you get your delivery.

Last time I talked to Jim from eggcamper. He didn't offer any shipping assistance or mentioned any connection with any shipping company even I expressed my need to have it shipped to Phoenix, AZ.

Thanks.

There are numerous options available to you for finding a shipping company. Many people use U-ship to open their delivery out for bids. This can be a good solution if you follow some simple rules.

These shippers are out to do it for the least cost and still make a buck. A common method is operate outside or on the fringes of the requirements of licensed shippers. You should ask any shipper for their motor carrier license, proof of insurance, and they should provide you with a bill of lading, This should be done when arranging the shipment and again when they pick up the product.

This will not guarantee a safe shipment, they can still damage your cargo or leave it along the side of the road. That is one reason to have a large portion of the payment in escrow for release to them when they deliver. It is also necessary for you to have the cargo insured as you are the current owner.

There are more complete instructions on the web site for U-ship. Do not accept the lowest bid, there is a reason that it is low. If you get enough bidders you can see the clear distinction between the fly boys and a serious shipper. It seems to me a figure of $1 a mile gives a rough idea.

I have used U-ship about a dozen times for large loads (antique tractors) and also my Casita when I bought it. Full time truckers use it to consolidate loads, as in pick up a load when there's space and they will be passing by as trucking with a less than full trailer doesn't make money. I check all credentials and reviews for U-ship bidders and have never used the lowest bid. Also did payment only on delivery after inspection. Buck-a-mile is a fair estimate tool, think my Casita came out around 80 cents a mile and much less than gas for me to go and get it plus spend a week doing that.
