[QUOTE=Robin G;470789]It's not about the "chet-chat" it's about that it's in the wrong topic to be chit-chatting in! This topic is, Show us your rigs!

Sorry all, my bad, forgot this was a sticky as well. Frank posted a great shot of his Parkliner and truck and I was impressed by the truck and commented which got us off track. Will watch in future.

Newest pic of our rig from this past weekend, taken somewhere in SW PA on the old National Rd Route 40.
1983 Scamp 13 pulled by 2001 Golf TDI.
Updates since last pic: slightly deeper drop on the hitch, new (to me) 16" alloys & tires w/ stiffer sidewall and more load capacity, new electric brake controller, new exterior fridge door.

Good to see a fellow golf owner

Just picked up our 2014 scamp 13 last weekend and drove 1k miles back home to Oklahoma.

'13 Golf TDI w/ a prodigy P2 brake controller, 7-pin connector, and a scangauge II to moniter egt, dpf temps, and loads of other info.

So far we have only spent one night in it at a koa on the way home. We will be leaving in 2.5 weeks on a 4k mile roadtrip/official maiden voyage.

Please give us some fuel economy numbers on the diesel VW's. That has to be the highest mileage configuration available.

I actually picked up the scamp in a suburban in case I needed to modify anything before towing with the golf, so I don't have a good mileage estimate yet.

I did pull it about 30 miles with the golf on a few local state highways to try different speed and gearing combinations and saw roughly 25-34 mpg depending on the terrain. The torque curve of my golf peaks around 2k-2.4k rpm which translates to 55-58 mph in 4th gear and 64-68mph in 5th gear. Those speeds/gearing combos seem to be the most efficient and keep pre-turbo egt's in check. I won't be using 6th gear to tow.

In a few weeks I'll have about 4k miles of data to share

Peak torque should start about 1700rpm, maybe 100rpm higher on the CR. I find that my Golf gets its best mpg around 58-62 mph. The guy towing an Airstream Bambi with your car reports about 26 mpg.

I notice my pre turbo EGT hits about 1100F on a long flat on ramp, then levels off below 700F. Some of the longer hills, like outside Chattanooga towards Nashville, it can climb easily to 1300-1400F. That's usually when I back off in 5th and a steady 55mph in 4th will bring the temp back down around 1000F. It scares me how hot it must have gotten before I had the EGT gauge

Both of you Golf "guys" - some Air Lift air bags in the rear coil springs help A LOT with the soft rear end.

Here is the kit I put in my car Air Lift

There are a couple similar kits that will work.

Just remember, these air bags do not increase your weight carrying capacity!!

My golf has bilsteins, R32 bushings, VR6 jetta springs, etc. The chassis is a bit stiff unloaded, but is happy with the weight of the trailer.

MPG is 28-33 towing, 47-51 bobtail.

Same screenname at TDIclub, x2.
Search for posts by me for more info on my hidden receiver hitch.

Enough yakking, this thread needs moar pics of cool rigs!
