Showing your trailer...

Okay, I know that I was warned before I bought my Scamp that many folks come along and ask to see inside. Usually I am okay with it and mostly proud, but...there are some days when it is just not cool. Either I consider my space a bit of a mess, or I am trying to get stuff done and really just want to be left alone. Recently I was at a casino in OR and within two hours eight different people/couples came by to "peek inside". I was busy trying to get things done so I could leave the next day, but was held up by these folks. I tried to politely say it wasn't a good time, but they would say things like "just a peek, it will just take a second" or "Oh, we aren't judging your mess, we just want a peek". So, how do you be firm and polite? I really had some running around to do and was in the process of reorganization and never did get to the grocery store or was able to get to refill my propane. By the end of the day I was considering putting a sign up saying "Don't even ask!", but I normally do not mind. How do you all handle it when it is just not a good time to show your little egg off?

We usually plan for this & just carry on, i guess you could say it's locked if the door is close & the keys are in your tow rig.

Devise one of the following signs to hang on your trailer when you need a "Do Not Disturb" moment:

Mobile Rabies Testing Facility
Mobile Proctology Exam Pod
Mobile Neutering & Spaying Unit
Hazmat Containment Unit
Hank's Roadkill Taxidermy

Or just carry pepper spray.

Honestly, I've learned not to feel rude about saying "no" when people themselves are being rude/invasive. I've never walked down the street and thought, "That's a cute house, I'm going to insist the family that lives there gives me a tour."

Hmmm...maybe a reversible sign: "Happy to offer a tour if you ask", with the other side..."Sorry, no tours today, we're on the go" or something like that. And if they still insist, refer to the pepper spray suggestion.

Monica,
When we first got our egg, sometimes it could take us an extra two hours to get out of a campsite because someone wanted "just a peek", then asked a hundred questions.

Yes, we enjoy meeting new people, but not all the time. A very polite, with a big smile, "I wish I could accommodate you right now, but I have to.... (fill in whatever)" works. Firm, friendly, polite. Done.

Fake a really bad cough, feel your forehead with your hand and in a gravely voice say you don't think it would be a good idea right now....

a looong time ago we/I made up a hand made double sided sign which reads on one side:

THE NO GALKING RULE
IS NOW IN EFFECT
By order, Park Management

Other side says:
THE NO GALKING RULE
IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT
By order, The Old Fart
Sometimes it just works too darn well and ALMOST always gets a laugh, wide grin or at least a good GALK!!!! LOL

It's the one's that do the slow drive by, stare but don't stop that bothers my husband. So far we have not been asked to have a look inside by anyone. Maybe it's the big black dog and the grumpy look on my husband's face.

How about, "We have had the runs all day and just feel awful. While you are in there, would you grab the porta-potty and empty it for us?"

We made a small book with descriptions, interior photos, etc. which we carry in a 3 ring binder. We put it on an old collapsible music stand in front of the trailer near the road. Many people scan it and are satisfied without knocking on the door.

Even worse, I was lying in the Scamp one afternoon trying to take a nap & someone looked in the window right over my head! I nearly had a heart attack!

Great Idea! We bought both our Scamps new. When you do this Scamp gives you literature to hand out and you can earn a small commission should a sale occur because of your referral. So I have thought about putting out material not so much to push a new camper buy just because it is a great camper to have.

We carry brochures of the 19 from Escape, both in the trailer and TV. A couple of times we've been too busy or behind schedule to show the trailer, so I handed out a brochure and made sure to refer to the company's website, explaining that there's lots of info/pictures there, as well as on the FGRV website

I just say,"Sorry, but I'm late! Go to <fiberglassrv.com> for all the info you want."

Sharyl

I don't know if that will work with the new paint job!
