I would rather be snowed in than go through the crap the Forest Service is putting us through this year.
I live in a small community surrounded by the Sequoia National Forest.
Roads into the Forest are closed at the first snow and opened as soon as is safe.
This year even though the Forest is snow free and dry they have decided to keep it locked up until the second week in May.
Mountian stream fishing opened up 5 days ago and we can't get into any of the streams because of locked gates.
My favorite camping, hiking and ATV riding area is only 27 miles from my home.
Twenty four of those miles are up a LOCKED FS dirt road.
This is the first year the FS has done this.
Talk about frustrating. Nature cooperates and the FS comes up with this crap.

John

1" rain = 6" snow

You would be in deep, at 36' of snow.

Thanks..............think I'll keep the rain and flooding. lol.
I love snow, but maybe not 36" of it. I couldn't eat that much ice cream.

I also hate mud, but I live on a paved state highway so I can avoid that.

Funny you OK people. Our Tulsa relatives want nothing to do with our snow either. I want nothing to do with your tornados. Oh. another war. My snow is better than your tornado.

Carl, I just sent you a PM.

Depending on the water content in the snow....it can be anywhere from a 5:1 to a 20:1 ratio.....so 30" to 120" snow.....wouldn't that be something?!?

That would, I could dig a tunnel from the house to the barn like the old movies.

We did have an ice storm a few years back and this area was dubbed "Narnia."

When we drove 20 miles across the Ark. line, people were puzzled by the ice on our cars.

Ya'll are so funny!
I grew up on the south shores of Lake Erie, snow, snow and more snow!
30+ yrs ago I requested Lackland AFB in San Antonio as my new duty station (I had been here for schools many times), and I never left. Old friends from home will, every winter, send me pictures of that "fun" white stuff, and then ask me why I still live here. They say they could not live here,"It get so hot", yes I answer, BUT...I don't have to shovel that hot!

Maybe the FS has no choice . The state parks in my area have pushed the dates for the water being on in the park to later in the season and the shutdown dates for the parks have been moved to earlier in the season. The reason I was given was budget cuts . Not all budget cuts are harmless

Oh, look, it's snowing. Snow got me two pins in my leg, cast up to my knee and according to my husband, a pain in his side.

Government definition of "budget cut:"

We had a 12 % increase in budget, but now only a 10 % increase.
Therefore, the 10% increase instead of 12% increase is deemed
a budget CUT to the public. Me not buying it.

It's all a game to them. Open the beaches even if the life guard took a vacation.
Stuff happens................LOL And the dollar continues to fall in value.

Oh if we still had the five cent peanut butter log that took 30 minutes to eat.

I wish there were more people who had it figured out.
