Simple trailer sales contract

Since I hope eventually my ParkLiner will sell, does anyone know where I can download a simple sales agreement/contract....or do people just sign over the title and that is it?

Try Googling "bill of sale" and I'm pretty sure you'll come up with a template somewhere. Not sure how necessary it is, and it may depend on local laws.

"Contract" usually indicates some conditions of sale, for example a deposit with a time limit for final payoff, delivery, warranty of condition, etc.

If it is an outright sale, a "Bill of Sale" is what you want. The best kind is one that both the seller and the buyer signs two copies of, selling and accepting the trailer AS-IS without warranty or conditions.

If you look on the CA DMV site DMV.CA.GOV there are generic Bill of Sale forms you can print out there that will do the trick. Be sure to have the buyer sign the copy you keep as being an exact copy of the Bill of Sale they get.

Depending on the states involved, a Bill of Sale may not be necessary, but it is an easy extra item to include, and that also offers you some degree of protection against recourse from the buyer and will also document the sales price.

They aren't required in CA, but I always do one for the reasons mentioned above. Check with your dmv, which MAY be at DMV.NJ.GOV

The buyer should check with their DMV to see what forms are required that the seller would need to sign, then bring those forms with them at the time of purchase

Hmmm... I don't see the most important of items there, the sellers signature and, as a buyer, I would not accept a bill of sale without the same I.D. information about the seller as required of the buyer.

If the existing registration IS NOT in the sellers name that also has to appear and indicate if the seller is signing as agent of the owner or for other specified reason that the names do not match.

There is no reason for a buyer to get stuck with unknown fines and penalties owed by previous owners... it does happen.

BTW: In some states the term "Down Payment" implies some state of partial ownership, "Deposit" does not...

This is the Bill of Sale I used when I bought my 2001 Casita 17SD in Texas last January. My state (Arkansas) requires a BoS (along with vehicle title) for all vehicles purchased out of state since many state titles have no provision for listing the sale price on the title. In Arkansas we must pay sales tax on used vehicles if above a specified price so they have to have something 'official' with the purchase price listed on it. I've bought 2 trailers in Texas in the last few years & had to do the BoS by mail on the first one so on this one I took 2 blank copies so we could each have a copy for record, & completed them on purchase...

Sorry - couldn't get a pic big enough to really read the print on the BoS but it contains all the info Bob recommends.

deryk - if you'd like a readable copy, PM me yer email address & I'll send one.

Make sure you give the buyer a bill of sale that lists the Vin number, description of the trailer, and add
" sold as is, with no warranty ". Include the selling price.

.......And in Pennsylvania, you MUST have the seller's signature on the title.

That advise to check with the DMV (of the state in which the TT is titled/licensed & probably the DMV where it will be titled/licensed) is sound.

Fortunately in NJ there is a section to sign both seller and buyer.... but I downloaded the bill of sale just so the buyer doesn't come back 6 months later and say there is a problem. Some people should only buy new and sell before the warranty expires lol

Watch an episode of Judge Judy and you will see where a bill of sale that stated AS IS and no Warranty will come in handy. Then when the wheel bearing goes out on the way home the new owner can not come back to you for something.

A Bill of Sale with both seller and buyer signatures.
