Slab City

Read this on the internet about Slab City's possible demise maybe by it's own residents.

Interesting article. I've long been interested in Slab City. We've often been near it but have never quite adventurous enough to go stay there for a night or two. At the very least I hope Salvation Mountain endures.

Well having been there and having turned around a left without spending a night I am not really surprised the end may by near..... bit surprising it has been allowed to stay as is for as long as it has.... one word describes it for me "scary".

I concur with Carol H. I braved one night in Slab City and that was more than enough.
I took a walk around the area in the early (but already dark) evening and that felt more dangerous than walking through lower Manhattan at night. Lots of "Free Thinking People" of all ages, sizes and shapes congregate thereabouts.

I hope to attend the Quartzite rally next year and thought I might spend some time in this area including a few days at Slab City before Quartzite. It appears there are lots of interesting places to boondock in this area.

Hippies don't scare me, but living among squalor does. I'd rather boondock with no people around.

Yeah, I thought it looked to be scary. I have seen pictures of the people. I thought a guy on another site went swimming in one of the water hole and later found out a body was found in it. Oooh!

I've read mixed reviews. I hope to get there sometime soon so I can form my own opinion.
