Snoozy Owners (check valve)

When we pulled the Snoozy out of her house,
the wife cleaned and decluttered the inside.
I cleaned the wheels and carried the clutter
into the house. Then she brought me some small
pieces of pvc which she did not know what they were.
I knew there should not be anything like that to my
knowledge, loose anyway. I looked under the couch
and there I found a broken check valve. I thought it
was a union of sorts. You couldn't see what you see here.
I reconstructed the valve for these pictures.



This is a 1/2" PVC In-Line Check Valve w/SS Spring (Threaded)
The part is a Matco-Norca 523T03.
On the computer the only place I could find was PexSupply.com
They show $3.48 each. I'm posting this as I think it might be
a good idea for Snoozy owners to perhaps carry a spare. Parts
are supposed to be found at Lowe's H.D. etc. but in my area
there's no place that carry these. You may never need a fix and
this may be the only defective one on the market. I ran two heaters
to be sure freezing wasn't an issue. But looking at the break it
looked like a defect to me.



I did learn how to understand how the City Water Supply and the
Water Tank System co-exit and operate. Would rather stayed
ignorant on the subject, but understanding is the up-side to this.....LOL

The only fix I could find after going to a dozen supply
houses, was the last Lowe's I went to a lady that was
over the plumbing department came up with this as a
possible solution. It was the nearest match (size wise).
But it was a 3/4" thread on both ends so also had to come
up with a 3/4" thread to 1/2" thread reducer. It has
Pro Plumber tag on the part but I don't have the box with
me to get a part number.

The only way to install it was to take the fitting loose from
the water pump itself. Then you can install the components,
install the water pump fitting into the check valve and reconnect
to the pump as it's a compression fitting.

These are shots of the finished install.
This is for drilled well water system.
The Snoozy part is rated at 150 PSI at a Max Tem. of 122 Deg. F. (50 Deg. C)
and .5 PSI Spring Loaded.

I could find no PSI for the loaded side of this valve.
It may be too high for a permanent fix. That's why I
suggest Snoozy owners to maybe carry a spare just in case
they find the need. They are not eazy to find in my neck of
the woods.

The water pump part number is:

SHURflo Pentair water
OEM: 4008-101-A65
AFTERMARKET: 4008-101-E65

Both numbers are for the same part, but the aftermarket
uses the E instead of the A.

A little bit of advice, one should always use flexible hose in/out of the pump to eliminate vibration being carried thru the rigid pipe lines. They have "pump quieting kits" which is nothing but 2 short pieces of flexible tubing. Makes a world of difference.

stiff pex pipe.

Mine has a flex hose as well but I am wondering if perhaps there was some water in the check valve over the winter which froze. Have seen a number of water pumps suffer due to that which is why I always pump anti freeze into the system through the check valve and pump.

Apparently, some owners had the cracked valve with no freezing issues. Since it was installed with rigid piping, I just suspect vibration is a cause - and freezing wouldn't help matters.
