Glorius sunshine and plus 5 degrees. The snow is melting and making a puddle at my back yard gate. It freezes around 4 PM and now can't get out of the back yard. Tomorrow will have to cut a channel through the drift so the water can run off into the yard. ..Or take the gate off the hinges for a while.
But then I'd have to tie the dog and I know she'd like me for that.
Hey! I'm just glad to get some rays for a change. Only a month or two left and we'll have spring EH!

snowing here again too, and expecting another foot or more. Snow predicted tonight, tomorrow, and again on Friday. That should amount to at least another 18 inches. My son rented a motel close to his work for the next two days. Rush hr in Minneapolis is the pitts, and he works on the other side of the city.
Now as for camping, I think that is a dream away. Hopefully in about 3 months. Then 3 months later it gets cold, the campgrounds close for the season, and the snow flys again.
You people in the south and south west with that warm sunshine all winter are envied by many here. By the time we northerners get the spring yard work done, the flower beds planted etc, 1/2 of our camping season is over.
I had a Grandma come here from Germany (she could have settled anywhere in the 48 states), and a Grandpa come from west Virginia. If they were still living I sure would like to ask them why they picked Minnesota, the land of 10,000 mosquitoes, and 6 months of snow to settle in. I sure would have picked some place a wee bit warmer than Mn, ........but Summers are beautiful here. Just not many months of camping.
Oh well, this soon shall pass, the snow will melt, and spring shall appear.
Thinking Spring here

Jack, a couple of weeks ago, we would have been out lounging by the pool under the palm trees if it had only been that warm here!
Here's our "Winter Weather Advisory" from 6pm tonight through noon tomorrow:
Quote:
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN QUAD CITIES HAS ISSUED A WINTER
WEATHER ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO
12 PM CST FRIDAY.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT TONIGHT THROUGH MIDDAY FRIDAY.
VERY STRONG WEST WINDS OF 25 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS OVER 50 MPH AT
TIMES...ARE EXPECTED TO COMBINE WITH PERIODS OF MODERATE TO HEAVY
SNOW TONIGHT...AND LAST THROUGH AT LEAST MIDDAY FRIDAY. THIS IS
EXPECTED TO PRODUCE LOW VISIBILITIES AND DANGEROUS TRAVEL
CONDITIONS ACROSS THE ADVISORY AREA. BRIEF WHITE OUT OR NEAR
BLIZZARD LIKE CONDITIONS WILL BE POSSIBLE TONIGHT AND FRIDAY
MORNING. WIND GUSTS OVER 50 MPH MAY RESULT IN ADDITIONAL TREE AND
POWER LINE DAMAGE DUE TO THE EARLIER ICE STORM LAST WEEKEND. 2 TO
5 INCHES OF NEW SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED BY NOON FRIDAY IN THE
ADVISORY AREA.
A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW WILL COMBINE
WITH STRONG WINDS TO CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR
SLIPPERY ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES...AND BE CAREFUL WHILE
DRIVING TONIGHT.

Well the good news is that todays snow stopped. I went out and got the snowblower out and cleaned the drive.
Bad news is that now we have freezing rain.
Robert. Package and send us as much of your warm as you can.

If you want to feel good about where YOU live... take a look at Iowa's roads here:
Iowa DOT Road Condition Map
Red is "Closed" or "Travel Not Advised". I don't think I've ever seen half the major arteries in the state "Closed" or "Travel Not Advised" in recent memory!

Our school kids had their first snow day yesterday. When I looked out my window in the AM there was our first snow of the year on the ground. About 2 inches and it was gone by noon.
This global warming is getting serious. Last year I used about 1 ton of wood pellets to heat my home through the cold months. I have already used over a ton because of the unusual cold we have had.
During my high school years my family and I lived in Lake Forest Ill., 30 miles north of Chicago. I remember those lake effect snow storms. They were miserable.
Hang in there as spring and summer is not far off.
When I complain about the cold weather I just think of what you all are going through in the midwest and east and become very happy that I do not live there any longer.
At least I can get warm. Death Valley is about 4 hours from my home and I am heading there this Saturday. It is supposed to be in the mid 80s next week.
I do symapthize with you and all of your miserable weather. If I could, I would send you all some of the Death Valley weather.

Robert-If you mention the warm temps again I am going to hitch up my FGRV and bring a rope down there to linch you. Wait a minute, if I come down there for a linching, you may as well join me and go camping instead.
Oh, forced retirement in 3 years. The agony of being forced to retire at 57. Federal law enforcement, the only job that they can fire you from due to age. Any other emplyer would be hauled to court for age discrimination.

Bob - Don't sound so glum about it. They are doing you a favor! I didn't wait to be kicked out at 57. I got in my 20+ years and hit the road at 53. Best decision I ever made. Remember the more valuable thing is not money - it's TIME! You can't get it back when it's gone.

Roger, in So California it is hot and no We northerners could all be camping if living there. I want that southern warmth (but I have to work). John, please send me some of your heat. If you could only package it up for me and send me some.
Dave, Bob, and all you others retiring in your 50's .............You have NO IDEA how lucky you are! You are truly blessed! I am 65 and working 6 days a week at the office, and raising dogs that takes up 7 night a week plus all day Sunday. Hoping by the age of 70 I can retire and at least take one trip out to see the USA before I get to old.
That said, here are some pictures of the camper taken this morning. We saw grass last week, and look at what we have now. Daylight savings time starts in a week and we will still have
I am getting that spring fever big time, can anyone tell?
