Well Ches, every mine down here is hiring, and we won't see snow for about 3 weeks yet, 6 if we're lucky this year. Lot's of room at the front of the house to park a trailer.....!

Please, Ches... keep that white stuff to yourself. I don't think many of us are interested in having it at all down here!

That's why they call it "The Great White North".
Down here out of the sub arctic, near Lake Ertie we won,'t get the snow until November or well into December. Jim

Chester,
What's the deal, just because you've got snow, did you have to send the cold to the mountains in So. California? We're at 5200' altitude and the temp outside is 40 degrees F.
We're trying to get the outside of the house painted before the weather hits and now we have to wait until the temp gets over 50 so the paint will dry .
Can we blame it on El Nino?
Thanks (?) for the and reminder

Oh, man, Chester, I feel for you. We had our first rain yesterday. (It's early.) I was so depressed thinking winter had started already. But today the sun is out. Thank goodness. So, is this snow early? Might it be a fluke and not really the start of winter for you?

Weather trivia for Alberta: in most of the province (not just Chester's home of Grande Cache, which like Edmonton is about halfway up to the border with the Yukon and Northwest Territories), there is some snowfall just about every month of the year - rare in June and exceptionally rate in July and August, but common in the other months.
I have lived in the Edmonton area for over 20 years, and every year there is snow in September - what we usually forget to mention is that it usually melts the same day. Snow that stays for more than a day or two doesn't happen until October or November, and even then there won't be enough to need clearing from the driveway until December at least. Although the winter is long, we really don't get very much snow, compared (for instance) to the places where I have lived in Ontario. It is annoying having to shovel it off of the Boler to take the weight off the roof...
Fortunately, my area escaped this particular snowfall.
The timing of the first snow in the fall (and last snow in the spring) doesn't seem to me to have changed much over the last couple of decades, but last winter (2005/2006) was very mild, lending some credence to the idea that global climate change has had a real effect.

I thought I had a short camping season here in Minnesota. I at least have green grass yet and NO snow on the ground for at least another month. I am jealous of all you southerners and west coast people that can camp all year.
After seeing Chester's pictures, I had better be a little more thankful.
Yikes, snow is soon to come. BRRRRRRRR I would love to put a frown on the little snowmans face LOL
I am already looking forward to next spring and the thought of nice days.
