I just read about a $150M loan guaranty for the
solar cells manufacturer, 1366tech, from Boston. They claim 50% cost reduction for multicrystalline silicon cells. Their main innovation is in silicon wafers manufacturing; instead of cutting wafers from a block of multicristalline silicon they melt the silicone than remove thin sheets of frozen silicon from the surface, just like a thin sheet of ice from a frozen lake. 50% Cost reduction could bring
solar power reality in competition with current sources of energy and what is important; these cells would be made in the US. I am sharing this information with folks who use
solar power often.
George.
