The bed in the SD-17 is just big enough for me and my 30 lb. dog. I can't imagine trying to sleep in it with another adult, especially when you can only enter and exit from one side.

We sold our 16' Scamp for a 21' BigFoot. Love the little bit of extra room & bigger tanks for longer dry camping. Needed to upgrade to a bigger vehicle to tow, but worth it. Used ones are hard to find, but we made it happen. Have fun choosing!

Well considering we just sold a 44" bed in the Scamp the 54" will be a dream...no pun intended

We have the SD 17. We feel the bed is fine size-wise but the 3 AM crawl over is a little annoying. Make sure you pee before you turn in for the night!!

I know what you mean about the 3 am crawl-over. We now sleep head to foot and find that we have more shoulder room AND the 3am crawl-over is easier.

Aha! Glad to hear somebody else found the head to foot a little easier for the 3am roll-over (and 2am, 4am, etc. etc). We loved the bed extention we did, but when I broke my hip, I found the crawl up and down was too hard, so we will go back to the head to foot next spring.

Not sure if you're aware, but Scamp NOW offers their 13' with a 54" bed! Yes, you lose some counter space and the larger closet, but it's still an option. It wasnt when I bought mine in 2010.

My wife and I've done the sleeping both side2side and front2back in our van on a 54" wide bed. Current set up has our heads at the rear-doors. What we don't like about that is even though there is no crawl over needed...the scoot to the front edge of bed is sort of an inconvenience too. Ah to have enough room for an island bed : )
Next rig we will test out a queen side2side with room enough for me to go off rear and do a MUD into bottle instead of the crawl over. still in ponder mode though.
(MUD = Male Urinary Device, OK funnel into a bottle or similar)
(FUD = Female Urinary Device. What wife is now preferring to use for the #1 thingy)

The 54" bed is standard in the deluxe Scamps, you still have to crawl over but it sure makes sleeping much more comfortable.

I'll second your thoughts. We sure are happy with our 54".
