Your stories have reminded me of a not-so-lucky fellow I met while trekking to Everest basecamp area many years ago. He was with an Australian film crew, there to film some sort of documentary or maybe some PR footage, and their crew ended up staying in the same little villages as I did each night.
He thought he was very lucky when we finally came across a village where there was actually an outhouse, as any sort of “facility” was grimly lacking along the trail (this was about 30 yrs ago). This particular outhouse was up a staircase, about 20 feet off the ground, so the offerings had a loooong drop. Poor guy, he dropped a very expensive and critical piece of camera equipment down the hole, I think it was a
light meter. When last seen, he was trying to figure out how to fish it out of the big pile at the bottom of the deep hole...
so no longer feeling quite so lucky!
