I was told by the dealer who sells the Honda 1000 that it wouldn't run a 5000 btu AC but I read a thread here that detailed the use of both together. Any opinions out there on the compatibility of these two appliances? By the way, I have a 13 ft. Trillium.

Thanks, Lloyd

Lloyd, I was just told by my electrician that 5,000 BTU's will draw just over 12 Amps, but this does not take into account the starting draw which I believe is about twice that for a short bit. He had given me a formula that I had written down, but deleted as it was not too clear. He also said it can depend upon efficiency of the motor too. I really am not sure myself.

Maybe someone with more electrical knowledge can chip in.

5000 BTU is about 1500 Watt Hours which would take about 12.5 A at running mode. Start of the air-conditioning unit could peak at 50-100% more.

Honda 1000 maximum wattage is 1000 W with 900W (7.5 A) running mode. This is about 66% of your need at the running mode, sorry.

I have Honda 1000 which was insufficient to run 800 W microwave due to start-up power requirement.

George.
