Speaking of tying down an awning

I mentioned the drama of trying to get that triangular shade cloth tied taut in all three directions.

Before he left for the lake, super smart hubby achieved one great tie off by draping rope over the top of his van, and then simply securing in the rope cleat on the boat (which was on the other side).



The cleats look like this, and, and you can pull your rope tight and the cleat holds it tight. No knot tying... totally cool!

Thinking about this later I am totally tempted to install two marine type cleats on the streetside of Lil Bigfoot just for this kind of use. But probably with a different shape of shade cloth.

Those cleats are great for securing lines. I used them on our solar panel kick stands to control angle of tilt. Several years ago I also integrated cleats to attach panniers to my touring bicycle. There could be thousands of uses for them. How bout infinitely adjustable suspenders for your trousers! They would release quickly for those inevitable emergencies.

This is so cool! But what exactly are they called? I tried googling boat cleats but only come up with the traditional style, not this pinch style.
