I've spent about two weeks pondering where and how to keep my spices. I'm still reluctant to screw anything into my new Escape, but after searching two kitchen stores and the Ikea web site, I found this, by accident, at my local supermarket.

It's the Rubbermaid Interlocking Mesh Drawer Organizer. It measures 3" x 15" and has an interlocking feature so you can attach two or more. Has rubber feet to keep it from sliding around.

It fits behind or at the side of my stove ( at least it does now - we'll see when I get the stove cover ).

It doesn't make sense to have a set of spices for the house and one for the trailer since spices should be fresh, but with this "rack" I can easily take the spices into the house after a trip.

There are a couple other shapes and sizes that can be locked together for a custom organizer. Price for this one is $4.99, but they also have cheaper, white plastic organizers.

I didn't want a rack that came with containers or one that took up counter space. Been there done that. You have to transfer the contents and then lable the containers. Or you can just guess, I guess. I just want something to hold the containers that the spice comes in. And, now I have several containers that are also grinders, grinding freshly each time you use them.

I saw a post about attaching magnetic containers to the stove hood, and wondered about them getting all greasy and about ease of reading the contents.

I do know I have a problem. When I get the stove cover and it is up I can't access the spices as shown in the pic. And with the stove cover in place, I'm not sure I have enough room for the rack along the side. Just another problem to solve and another reason to retire.

I just bought a stainless steel refrigerator board that suction cups on (to the fridge) or in my case, to the back wall of our trailer - I'm going to get some magnetic spice cans to attach to it...

The board was quite a find actually...$2.98 at Pottery Barn Outlet - on the 50% off rack.

Now about $1.49 for the magnetic cans. We don't cook inside but it'll be nice to have spices near by to use out on the camp stove and not have to dig thru the rubbermaid container to look for them.

That was another reason I like the Rubbermaid "rack". I can take the whole thing outside where we do most of our prep and cooking. And, take it back inside before it starts to rain.....
