Stolen Trailer!

This is from a referral from Facebook. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION.

My moms Scamp travel trailer (plate number 3721VF) was stolen from her driveway last night in downtown Sumner, WA. Please spread the word and picture to every group and page you are part of. The police have been notified but I'm sure it's tucked away somewhere by now - Anything will help!!!!

This information has now been shared 880 times on Facebook alone. There are been at least two individuals who believe they've seen the trailer.

1. I swear we saw this SPEEDING down McCutchen/Rhodes Lake Road about 12-1 this afternoon. I actually made the comment "gosh they're flying down the hill while towing that thing!" But didn't pay much more attention than that.

2. Saw it this morning on our road in Morning View Ridge. I can check our cameras and get a make, model, color vehicle and time. (The photos were then sent to the OP for delivery to the police.)

This trailer may be recovered eventually. It could happen because people are made aware of the theft.

Thank You Donna for posting the possible theft of a trailer .
In my book you did what any concerned citizen would do .
There are always those who will find fault when anyone does a good deed or the right thing.

Here's some pictures of the vehicle that stole the trailer. The vehicle is pretty distinctive with the rack on the top and decals on the back window, even if they're illegible.

The 'wing' antenna on top of that Scamp helps make it distinctive, too. Hopefully someone will spot it and the police will nab the suspects.

About 3-4 years ago, my daughter saw a flatbed trailer in a barn at the place where her horse was boarded. It looked practically new, so she wondered why it was being re-painted. She went onto CL and found an ad (with photos and description) posted by the real owner looking for his stolen trailer, and she contacted both the owner and the police. My daughter promptly moved her horse to another pasture. The thief, son of the land owner, eventually went (back) to prison.

Community involvement can play a vital role in reducing crime, because the police can't be everywhere.

stolen trailer

Be sure to lock up securely including safety chain. I also put my Casita up on jacks.

We do have a padlock on our hitch, but those are easily dealt with by determined thieves.

Thefts on trailers in campgrounds???? WOW Paranoia will get ya. Seriously it just doesn't happen. For one thing there's too many bigger RV that look like that they have something of value. Another most campers (people who camp) kind watch for each other.
While traveling it would be pretty difficult for somebody to steal your trailer while traveling down the road. Even when you stop for various reasons the would be thief knows you'll be back soon.

California and Califorians might be different than the rest of the world.

I would as that folks keep the context of this thread about the recovery of this trailer. I have deleted a whole bunch of posts that are of no benefit to this happening.

Here are a few. We had to modify the nose of the Bigfoot Silver Cloud a bit, but hubby's research says the ProPride turns the tow vehicle and trailer into one vehicle more or less, that is, it changes the pivot point. Pricey hitch but worth the peace of mind. Hubby could drive with one hand when semis passed and not even notice them. Before, he had to watch for them passing and grab the steering wheel as hard as he could, and even then, it whipped us around.

Jan, I don't believe that that hitch would work on a surge brake set-up. If you reallly would like to use it, you could have the trailer wired for electric brakes.

Thanks David! Hubby has another way of securing/locking the tongue since we will have the surge brake system on the Snoozy.
