Stormy Weather

I have been busting my butt to get things done so I could spend a couple of weeks on the Outer Banks before the heat sets in.

Just checked weather forecast for June and starting toward the end of next week, it looks like cloudy with chance of almost daily thunderstorms. The earliest I can leave is next Tuesday, so I would be leaving in a rainstorm to stay at the beach in a thunderstorm.

No sun means no fun and dead battery, so it looks like I'm not going anywhere.

Even though they are calling for daily thunderstorms it changes down there by the minute. The daily thunderstorm may only last 1/2 hour and then be nice the rest of the day. Besides it will keep the heat down. I say go for it.

Don't give up so easily! Take a book (or several). There won't be a thunderstorm ALL day, EVERY day of your stay! Same with the clouds. Just go and make the most of the stay.

I live in Norfolk, and the weather is great right now. Those thunderstorms come and go, and you'll have enough good weather to enjoy yourself. Besides - there's more to do than beach!

And besides, your tow vehicle will charge your rig on the way there. Every couple of days go for a spin to pick up more flour and hard-tack and take her back to the camp ground.

And unless you are running a lot of fans constantly you should be fine....your panels will get some sun and they will put some juice back into your batteries.

Take a chance you might enjoy yourself!

This may sound strange, but I'm going to the beach for the sun, sand, and ocean, not for a vacation. I have been on vacation for the last 12 years.

I'm going to monitor the weather forecasts and when it looks like more sunny days than cloudy days, I will head out. I plan on shooting lots of video and taking lots of pictures.

When it storms for days on the outer banks, it's not unusual for the road to wash out, sand dunes to cover parts of the road, and even for the sound to cut a new channel back to the ocean. And when you get strong winds, it is like being sand blasted. Sand gets through the smallest cracks, the bridge may close down, and ferries docked.

I can't tell from the weather reports if the storms they are expecting over the next couple of weeks are just the normal afternoon thunderstorms or part of a bigger storm system, but I'll wait it out. Fishing is usually good just before a storm, but the water stays clouded for days afterwards with few fish caught.
