Hi: All... Don't throw away the wooden match sticks either!!! They make great wood fillers for loose screw holes in plywood. I used them on our Boler table to repair the wobbly attachment to the rear wall. WARNING Make sure you don't leave any unstruck heads on them!!!

Back in the '60s we used to have match wars with stick matches and guns made from spools of thread and rubber bands. We also used to wear our sweatshirts fuzzy side out until one of the guys took a direct hit in the middle of his chest and turned into a fireball. Lost his eyebrows and half the hair on his head before we put him out. It's a wonder any of us survived childhood!

We used to, starting in about 8th grade, bring our shotguns and .22s to school so we could go hunting as soon as the last bell rang (kept them in our lockers no less). Funny how not one of us turned out to be a mass murderer or terrorist. Think maybe it's because our parents taught us respect and that we had to be responsible for our own actions??

You pretty well hit the nail on the head. Where I went to HS we had a rifle/pistol range in the basement and we had a rifle club to boot.
Unfortunately I don't think the current parenting delimna will go away and seems to be getting progressively worse. Since this is a FG forum I will stop here as that issue could go on for years with active discussions.

I've tried the new diamond ones...they don't strike anywhere.

I found an old box of US made ones in my camper, I got excited...they must have been damp, they just smolder, and don't light anywhere.

I want matches you can light on you pants, your zipper, fingernail, teeth, etc.
We used to make our own waterproof by dipping wooden matches in candle wax. These days I just keep a selection of butane lighters !

Strike anywhere matches

I purchase the strike anywhere matches at our local Ace Hardware store. I have a friend that purchased a case on the internet through Ace Hardware. Marg in NW California

I just remember waaay back when I was in high school, you could tell all the boy smokers (and they were male) because they walked around with white stripes on their bottoms from striking matches. Looked like a bunch of lopsided zebras
