summer jobs in/near Grand Rapids Mi.?

Our oldest daugter just received her U.S. summer work visa ( for Canadian university students). She left this a.m. Does anyone have any job suggestions? It prohibits her from childcare, camps and casinos. Don't know why, but that's the deal. Her boyfriend currently lives there, but grew up in Kalamazoo so doesn't have a lot of contacts there either.
Any thoughts ?
Jean

Isnt a job needed before getting a visa or is she looking for additional work? I ask because we tried to get a few canadians a couple summers ago for help and hit red tape galore.

Summer Jobs

Jobs are in short supply in G.R. at the moment. Have your daughter get a copy of Sunday's Grand Rapids Press for the best help wanted ads, or go to the link below.

Good luck!

Job Hunting

I have helped my kids look for many jobs and the best way to get one fast is to get in the car and drive from business to business. She needs to go in and ask for a job. We never drove over a few miles before a satisfactory one was found. Usually had two or three to pick from. There are a lot of jobs out there that aren't put in the news paper. In fact when I was in business the only time we advertised in the help wanted adds, was when all else failed. If you notice it's the business that can't keep employees that are always asking for help in the adds. Usually there is a good reason why. Most of the better jobs are filled before they are put in the paper.

I thought She had to have a Green card.

Good Luck in your job search.

us employment

Green card - What she has is a J1 work/travel visa, (and it's white!). For any job she is offered she must forward the details for approval to the International YMCA in NY who are the sponsors. The J1 allows 3months work and 1 month travel, and you can only apply if you have not completed your undergraduate degree. I suppose that is their assurance that you will be leaving at the end of the 4 months. But you have to check-out with immigration when you leave anyway.
she had to pay $ 500 up front to apply, which they would refund if the request was denied.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Jean
