The middle pole is one of five expandable (twisty-up or twisty-down) that we have. The middle pole is not modified, has swivel-feet each end. The other four are modified by having bolts instead of top swivel feet, to go through grommets.

Two flag-bearers proudly lift the back ends of the tarp with modified poles. And LIFT! up and over the Boler (vents down) to the drivers side (bush side) of the installation. Hooked straps get attached to trees or pounded in the ground with pegs.

Two more modified poles about halfway to the beach. When the beach is too rocky to pound tent pegs, use green reusable grocery bags filled with rocks (picture to follow in next session) as tie-downs.

Then three awning poles along the front (beach side), corner, other corner, middle.

Then canoe and when it rains, canoe faster, then build a cooking fire under the tarp. Watch son swim ("It's raining, honey, you might get wet!") with the sun over the yard-arm.

I carry a Kelty 'Noah Tarp' that I used as an awning when I had my VW Westfalia.

I rarely use it now. I did consider it last week - I had set up camp with the awning facing the wrong direction - wasn't at all useful for blocking afternoon sun and it was actually a bit cooler outside in the shade than inside with the Magic Fan on - but still too hot to consider actually getting up and rigging up the tarp
