And the interior. The second photo below shows one of the folding stove tops down and the other one up. The stainless steel worktop is not orginal but everything else is (sink, tap, oven stoves).

Dig that groovy shower screen, man (please supply your own Austin Powers accent for best effect).

Thanks for sharing Andrew!

What a great restoration. The fold down stove is very cool!

Hey does that guy live in Southern California (L.A.)? If so he should join up with us at a rally sometime...if he actually takes it camping.

Cool trailer and excellent job of restoration.

I wonder what it weighs. Just seems like it should have tandem axles.

I'm in love!!!!!! He did a super job restoring it. I too think the pop down stove is one of the trailers best features. I want one in my Burro. I really like the vintage/retro look. Thanks for sharing.

Lizbeth,

The owner does live in LA but I don't know how much camping he does - I would be happy to pass on any invitation.

Loren,

I've not seen any specification for this trailer - as it is the prototype, it never got that far. The maker's blurb about it did say it was very lightweight and weighed "1/2 ton less than ordinary trailers of similar category". The same piece says that it wasn't for sale, but if it was, they'd ask at least $75,000. In 1961!!!!

I just look at all the work that went into making the plug and molds for this trailer - more than any other fiberglass trailer ever, I would suggest - and only one trailer was made. Not a good example of how to amortise an investment!

The refurb was very tastefully done! A lot of work must have gone into that, let alone the original construction.

Where does one camp with a one-of-a kind trailer?
And what does one tow it with? A Tucker????

since we're looking for descriptives, i'll throw out "far out". a lot of futuristic looking things were done in the late 50's/early 60's. remember the monsanto house of the future at d-land? hey andrew, with throwing around words like "amortize" on this website, you must be in the accounting or finance field?

Thank you for posting the pictures, Andrew. It's absolutely beauiful.

Since you are in contact with him, I hope he wouldn't mind sharing the fold down range info with you. Like others, I really like the possiblities that it offers.

Please tell him for me

Trailer: 1960 Geograph Model X
Posts: 15
I am not sure if this will be posted since its my first time. I am the lucky owner of the 1960 Geographic. What a nice and friendly website.

I thought I should provide more information about this rare find:

The Geographic was built in Oregon, USA in 1960. It was brought to LA (Van Nuys) area to be shown at a very important Trailer show opening on February 6, 1961. It is 24 feet long. Its designed to accomodate a family of 4 comfortably and be self contained for at least one week! It has 2 sofas that fold out to 2 comfortable double beds. Plenty of storages and drawers. One of the drawers actually slides out and turns into a dining table. It has 2 Batteries, 2 Propane tanks, 50 Gal. Water tank, all hidden under the nose, and many other features which still amaze me every time I walk in. It is truly the ultimate of luxury, technology and craftsmanship. Although it was stripped completely for restoration, the main things that needed to be fixed were the rotted pipes and cables. Everything else just needed to be cleaned, varnished or glued. I thought the stainless steel counter top would be a good touch and relative to 1960. This Trailer was labled the Cadilac of Trailers.

The Geograph was priced for $8,750.00, but in 1962, the manager of the show room bought this it at a discounted price of $5,000.00. I don't think she used it much but she was very organized. The folder that carries all the brochures and articles also has her travel plans and guids, etc.

To answer your question, I have never owned or travelled with a trailer, but I know that it has become a dream to take this one for at least a week trip. I welcome sugestions. I am happy that my 6 Cylinder Ford Explorer can tow it easily. It weighs only 2,500 lb.

Welcome, Bardy! As you can tell, we are all very excited about your trailer and what you have done with it.

Congratulations on a great find and thank you so much for sharing it with us.

... now if we could just get those foldaway stoves back into production, I think several of us would be really happy.

Bardy, congrats on your find and the superb job you've done in restoring it! There are few RV restorations that are museum quality, and yours certainly appears to be! You are towing a significant piece of RV history behind your Explorer.

Welcome to FiberglassRV.com! While your Geographic is certainly unique, most of these trailers share many, many things in common so there's probably someone here who's already encountered any issues that you may run into. Don't hesitate to ask for help when you need it!

Once again, a beautiful job on a beautiful trailer. We hope to see a lot more of it around here!

Welcome to FiberglassRV!

Let me be the 1st (of many, I'm sure) to suggest a trip up the coast to Bandon, Oregon, where you'll find [b]Bullard's Beach State Park just off highway 101, say sometime around the [b]3rd weekend in July, 2007.

You are very lucky all around!

That is the most unique trailer we have seen here.

Any chance those of us in So. Cal can get a "viewing" in person? We could do a rally in honor of you and it!

Maybe bring it to Lake Casitas in October? (See Rally section)

Made in Oregon. I should have known!

If you take it on the road, just be prepared to have people lined up at every stop to see inside. One of a kind and light weight too, wow. It looks wonderful.

And I think it should come back to Oregon...at least for a visit.

How about coming to the Oregon Gathering in July

That's amazing!
My 16' Fiber Stream weighs 2,000 lb. completely stripped, and close to 2,700 lb. loaded for the road.
