Interesting read from CNNMoney:

Apple tablet: One tech gadget for all
The rumored and much-hyped tablet computer from Apple could lay waste to the markets for countless other gadgets.

I think it will actually change my business for ever....and I hope it does.

To say I am waiting for this to be released is an understatement.

People, Tablets have been around for a long time. I started selling them about 4 years ago to Medicel and Law Customers. The best thing about todays Tablets is they cost less, do more, are much faster and the right tool will cost you less. Don't buy a toy when you need a tool to get a job done.

The iPhone does most of those things now- granted on a teeny screen- but has a hefty monthly charge. That would keep me away from an iTablet as well- especially on the AT&T network. For business, sure, great, but for personal use I don't want to pay monthly charges to have my tunes or my books.

Interesting comment?

What exactly is toylike about a UNIX Tablet?

I also sell and deploy Tablets already but nothing like what this Apple promises to represent.
Right now almost every application for these is developed for a Vertical Market even many already run existing OS's.

This Apple device will have an application base before it even hits the market and in my specific business most of the tools I sell are supposed to be Toys!

I think it is a huge mistake to underestimate the impact this will have.

Also Alf,Good One!

Alf, I believe Moses started out with three tablets but he dropped one. (For reference, watch the Mel Brooks movie, History of the World, Part ii)

I never said anything about a OS being a toy, I was talking about the device (Tablet).

I am typing this on my Lenovo X61 tablet running Windows Vista. I use the tablet functionality 10% of the time. The tablet features are handy in my classroom, where it, in conjunction with a data projector, replaces an overhead projector. And I write solutions to math and physics problems directly onto the screen, and then post them to my web site as gif files. But if I were not a teacher, I would never use this as a tablet.

Tablets are, of course, great for visual artists who want to use digital media.

I won't be lining up for Apple's tablet. It has no serious apps that interest me, and it will be too expensive as a toy.

edit: This rumour has been around for a long time. I'll believe it when I see it.

Ron, thats a real nice Tablet. I have sold alot of them because they can take a beating. Insurance claim adjusters can really beat them up on the road.

There is even something better out right now, although not related to computers at all... And I want that from Santa: A Streetstrider! An elliptical on wheels, way cool!!
