My main gripe with the app is that if you click a link back to FGRV it doesn't open the link on the app, but rather opens it in a browser which is impossible to read on a smartphone or Ipod Touch.

I wonder if this is because the app just sees the link, which is opened according to the settings on your phone. It would be nice if they could at least recognize and open the FGRV ones inside the app. Other outside links I can understand though. I am not a programmer in any way, so not sure of possiblities.

I use it. I have the font size set to "larger" and it works better for my aging eyes. I like how it goes directly to unread posts in a thread.

On my droid I can just touch the screen and blow up the browser large using the spreading finger technique like you do for pictures and it gets huge. I am using Firefox browser cuz I like it for my regular computer. IE has given me nothing but Fits over the years.

I use an iPod Touch, but wouldn't ya think that if there is an app to make the FG site easily readable, than when you get referred back to the FG site, the app would use the same functionality to display the page correctly?
Sure I can enlarge it, but I could do that with no app, it is just sort of like reading a newspaper through a key hole.

Ok it is a woman's right to be confusing....so I will just say I use it for all the reasons stated above....I like/dislike it for all the reasons stated above.! confusing I know .I don't like it to post on because I like my desk top best for that, but my desk top is hard to carry around with me.It is better to read than most magazines at the doctors office. I can't always see the pictures because it doesn't always know me.
Oh well being old I can truly say( at least for me) it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks and I feel sure it is a great app I just need to learn how to use it better.

It doesn't have all the functionality of the website, but I love it. I'm almost never on a computer away from work. I live on my iPhone.

"My main gripe with the app is that if you click a link back to FGRV it doesn't open the link on the app, but rather opens it in a browser which is impossible to read on a smartphone or Ipod Touch."
This isn't a gripe for me as much as a "Why does it do that?". Curiously, I've been in the app and clicked on a link to another site and it stays in the FGRV app, even though I'm then on another site. But like Thomas says, a link back to FGRV shouldn't restart a browser. After all, the whole point of an app is to AVOID using the browser.
That being said, I love the app. If one has a fast new phone, then the advantages aren't as apparent. But whenever I have my old 3gs up...browsers are slow, apps much much faster! Apps just make better use of the phone's limited processor, etc.
I absolutely love the way the app handles posted pictures in the "for sale" section.

I understand the point of a stripped-down app designed to present a simplified version of the site for small-screen mobile devices... but my tablet has enough space that the full web site is easier to use, and I don't look at the forum on a phone-sized device. The device would need to be very small to justify tolerating this barely usable app.

Information is good. Lack of information is not so good, but misinformation is much worse. Check facts, and apply common sense liberally.
