The Long, Long Trailer?

Has everyone seen "The Long, Long Trailer"? It is probably my most favorite movie of all time. It stars Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez and it is so "real" when it comes to hauling a bigger unit and also shopping without a dedicated plan. It has me on the edge of my seat every time I see them going through the mountains (actually the stunt person) even though it is movie but to realize someone was actually doing this versus someone just playing with scenes on a computer is just awesome. I just love the movie and have it in VHS and DVD. I love Lucy!

I love that movie too. I saw it years and years ago and never forgot it. I've been watching bits of it on Youtube recently and it's as good, if not better, than I'd remembered it.
We also watched "RV" with Robin Williams recently. We joke about driving Diablo Pass now.

When e announced to our family we were quitting the everyday grind at 58 and buying an RV to travel the country, one of Ginny's sisters gave us that movie. I was never sure whether it was meant to be humurous or critical.

I will say as we traveled I collected rocks every where we went.

We have it on VHS. I read somewhere that there's something unusual about their car. Apparently 2 different cars were used in the movie, I think one was a Lincoln and the other a Mercury, maybe 1954 models. Did you notice that the trailer tongue rides on a dolly, not sure if that was a common thing to do, or they just had to do it because of the size of the trailer and no weight distribution hitch. Bob

Tow dollies were needed because there were no weight distributing hitches. Both my parents and grandparents had tow dollies. The alternative to a dolly was overload springs. I saw the movie when it first came out and liked it a lot. A few years ago I read the book then started to watch the movie again on tv. I turned it off because the book spoiled the movie for me. The pictures the book conjured up in my mind were far funnier than the movie. The book might be able to be found at Amazon.com.

When we use the Scamp we sometimes put a sign in the back window that says: "The short, short trailer". Don't know if people get it or not.

Absolutely love "The Long, Long Trailer".
Have now seen it numerous times, and the best was
last summer.
At the campground we stayed at, we mentioned to several people that we had it on DVD, and a multi-media projector with us, and thought it might be fun to cover the front of the gazebo with a sheet, and have an outdoor, drive-in/ sit-in theater.
Once it became dusk, we lit the campfire, passed out the marshmallows, and began the movie.
Partially through, we did a quick count and our site had more than 30 viewers and new friends.
It was truly a movie that so many remember and hold dear, in our camping community.
Cheers, Jake
