I saw this when it was first making the rounds in the theaters. Early 1950s if I remember correctly. I borrowed the book, read it. A few years ago it was on one of the cable/satellite channels. I started watching it again and turned it off after a few minutes. The first time I read it, it was very entertaining. The second time it was terrible. I think the reason for this is because I had read the book. My mind did for the story what the movie could not. The same thing happened when Fibber McGee and Molly made the transition from radio to tv. TV just could not ever come close to what peoples' minds did for Fibber's closet. If you have not read the book you'll like the movie.

I got my wife to watch it last night and now she is worried that I am going to take her on a narrow road on a mountain! I figure the interior of the trailer used for the movie was a "set".... Or did they use that type of interior furnishings and appliances "back-in-the-day"???......if so that rig must have weighed ten times the trailers of today!
Funny movie and a must see for anyone new to trailer camping....can't get much worse than that!!!
Happy Camping!

Yep.
15 feet of rocks vs. 40 feet of rocks..............LOL
And with the rear door, those rocks could easily
roll out and down the road.

The vintage trailer did indeed look like that inside. You might find it interesting to google on the vintage trailers as those that have been redone are absolutely beautiful. Also, there is a website if you google "The Long, Long Trailer" that gives details and they had a mini quiz on the movie to test your knowledge or at least they had this the last time we looked.
One of my favorite movies of all times, own a copy and can't even guess how many times I have seen the movie.

Anyone notice the double wheel hitch assist between the car and the trailer in the movie? Here is something similar http://www.agweb.com/article/The_Sti...Helper_206495/

It's called a DOG. Here's a pic of one here on the West Coast that's been restored.
