Great story, and well written. Familiar also, except I got lucky and found an unused 2007 Casita advertised in Illinois in 2014 (it had been towed to Illinois and put in a barn, never to emerge until I arrived). The nice man held on to it until I could drive from Virginia and it was exactly as advertised . Having drank the kook-aid, I traded for a Bigfoot a year later.

Thanks Donna! When we told a friend we had just purchased a travel trailer, he was quick to recommend "The Long, Long Trailer." We got the DVD from Netflix; it was fun, if predictably silly, basically a long sitcom with no laugh track. Folks here can identify with some of the problems they encountered, like backing up into a driveway, banging your head on the trailer doorway, failing to secure the dishes, etc., etc.

The New Moon trailer in the movie was a real one, from 1953, not 40' (as claimed) but 37'. They are pulling it with a 1953 Mercury Monterey convertible, a V8 no doubt, but doubtless the wrong suspension for such a monster trailer.

A most enjoyable read! As an aside, I can't remember how many slant sixes we had in the family during those years; Darts, Belvederes, sedans, wagons, and even a panel truck. Ah, memories...

Yes, those slant sixes got me through graduate school, about 5 in all. A two door, a four door, station wagon, convertible, and pickup. I would buy one for $600. (a long time ago) drive it for 6 mo to a year and sell it for what I paid without any significant repairs. Cheap because Oregon has no sales tax. I would like to have the three on the tree, manual top convertible back.

Thanks Tappy! It was getting a little long, so I figured I'd post an update in a while, as we get used to this new addition to our lives (a bit like having another kid). As I hinted, there were already mods to make. . .

" Got Lucky ? " . We should all be so lucky ! Actually, I had a similar situation : I found a Scamp 13' two hrs from home, in my old home town and on my old street !! And it was unused and stored inside because the wife was furious that her husband ordered the Scamp and had it delivered without consulting her. She wouldn't set foot in it, so it sat for 16 yrs until he died, then she could sell it !! ( There must be some lesson there for married folks, how NOT to act ). Thanks Mr Lynn, good read, once you're hooked you're hooked. We purchased a Casita front the factory, used it a few years then sold it locally for 75% of what we paid. Bought a HUGE class A, which we like, but.....

We never lost the live of the molded fiberglass trailers and just bought a vintage 1970 Trails West Campster. It's in great shape and we will use it for the short trips when it's too much trouble to pack up Bertha.

Actually picked the name from the big boring machine meandering it's way under Seattle but I'm guessing that they picked the name from your reference.

At one point in the movie I believe a Lincoln was substituted for the Mercury. A dolly was used under the trailer tongue, so no weight was on the car suspension
