The Passing of A Fellow Traveler

Those of you who have attended the annual Oregon Trailer Rally may remember Lewis "Lew" Mengle, a Casita owner. Lew passed away unexpectedly 2/1/2012 at his winter home in Palm Springs, CA. He was 79. I don't know how many years he attended the rally, but know he enjoyed being in Oregon during the summer. If you care to read more about Lew, visit

God Bless him on his next great adventure!

How sad!! He will be missed! To young! 2 summers ago he was camping at Mackenzie Bridge at the same time I was after a Bandon meet - we had a few laughs and he introduced me to a really great little golf course........ he was also a good golfer!

Oh man! Lew and I made a habit of having lunch nearly every year in Bandon when he was able to attend the Oregon Gathering. CRAP!

I met him in Bandon at the car wash. He was ahead of me washing his Casita. I was in my 17 ft Burro. He hung around to chat and he helped me wash my rig.

Carol, 2 years ago I was a camphost near McKenzie Bridge.. I know you were not in my Campground.. which one were you in?

I know both places. I was a mile from Holiday farms at Delta Campground

Lew would have loved it there.

It would have been Paradise. There is a nice launch there.

Delta does not have *great* access to the river, tho there is a popular launch across the river from it.

I was so sorry to learn of Lew's passing. He was such a pleasant fellow. I last saw him 2 years ago at the gathering. Unfortunately I had to cancel on our golf date because my knees simply would not hold up to task at the time. It is funny how things happen as I was thinking about him a couple of weeks ago and then last Friday I was contemplating what golf clubs to bring this year.

He'll definitely be missed.
