Where were you guys several years ago when I was trying to figure this out? I've never heard the 60" number before - good to know I can still learn things
Back then, I cobbled together a mock up out of wood and moved the cross bar back and forth until I determned the forwardmost position that would allow me to turn ninety degrees and still have clearance between the camper and bumper. On a Tacoma short bed (60") crew cab, that worked out to be roughly two inches behind the rear
axle. I would have preferred it to be directly over the
axle but it tows great.
Another plus for this setup is, with my genset (Honda EU3000) and cooler (45 qt Pelican) in the front of the bed, I still have sufficient clearance to make the ninety degree turns. That would not be possible with the crossbar any further forward.
