Saw a link to this story on Huffington Post. How cool to see a Casita picture on my favorite blog.

The Secret Lives of Amazon's Elves

http://gizmodo.com/5...f-amazons-elves

{snip}

If Amazon is Santa, 400 folks living in RVs outside the Coffeyville, Kansas fulfillment center this winter are the elves.

A few years back Chris Dunphy and Cherie Ve Ard flipped the bird to their desk jobs, packed their belongings in a custom 17-foot solar-powered fiberglass camper, and hit the road to live "at the intersection of Epic and Awesome." A couple months ago, while staying with friends, they noticed that Amazon was luring RVers to Coffeyville, Kansas, the site of the retail giant's original and largest fulfillment center.

"We were located in San Diego at the time," explained Cherie. "We're part of a community of younger full-time RVers on Nurvers.com, a group of non-retired-age folks who are living the mobile lifestyle and kind of going outside the norms of 'Wait for retirement to travel.'" They noticed other RVers were flocking to Kansas to work for Amazon. The pay wasn't great—just above $10-an-hour, typically—but Chris and Cherie were planning on being in St. Louis for the holidays. Why not kill a month in Kansas working for Amazon?

Thats a nice trailer but I don't think it is a Casita. take a closer look at the indents in the glass molding.

Yes, it is an Oliver - I know that is the type of trailer Chris and Cherie have.

OK, It's an Oliver . . . but isn't that a molded fiberglass open cockpit sleigh being pulled by Rudolph in the background? I think Santa has improved his ride!

One of our members here works at Coffeyville for Amazon this season. She is also on workamper.com

I considered it, but did not want to leave my dogs alone for the long shifts.

There are workampers that work for amazon 6 mos and play for 6 mos, then go back and make their yearly money and repeat.

Looks like grueling work, but folks that do it seem happy to do it.

Yes, it's an Oliver .... my mistake. Took a coffee break this morning while cooking Christmas dinner and saw a fiberglass trailer. Our trailer is in storage ..... having withdrawal so any story about FG trailers on Christmas day was a great gift.

Merry Christmas.

Gina, I was reading Chris and Cherie's account of their time there (not this article), and they even left their cat at Chris' parents' place. And said they were glad they did.

They also agreed that it was grueling work, but they enjoyed the peek into the world of Amazon.
