The unusual

As we travel we like new and unusual. We found one at Best ingres BBC in Charleston today.

Is it a donut or onion ring?

Alf,

I know what you mean, fortunately we both have excellent cholesterol numbers. As well we eat minimal carbs, usually only 1 slice of bread a day, a slice of toast with one egg and one slice of bacon.

I will also say that fats are important in a diet, though like any thing to excess is dangerous.

Since we began RVing we are diet conscious and have lost over 100 lbs between us. Giving up bread and other wheat products caused us to quickly lose 10 pounds (except when in NL where there bread is so good it's hard to ignore.)

I will say that was the best onion rings we've ever had, a really sweet coating and closer to a donut with a slice of onion.

We basically avoided supper yesterday.

Tim, This year we're in a rush to FL, but thanks for the link I'll bookmark it. We plan to stop in St. Marys, GA for a shrimp out... than on to Wauchula.

Tim, We used to carry a book titled Road Food that listed all these interesting places to eat, really mostly locally famous places,,,you know where the locals go. A really good book. I'll have to bring that next time. It took us to some great places.

Jon, We started tracking the Sterns before the Internet and have been to a number of their suggested restaurants. We were never disappointed. It looks like they have an app.

Cool Onion Rings

Weight Watchers sets 'points' for food. One should start eating about 20 points per day. Red Robin Restaurants offer a "Tower of Onion Rings" which is rated at 72 points. That is almost 3 days of calories.

Dang, you would tell me that and we are getting a Red Robin here in town later this year. It is kind of funny, Red Robin Corporate was all hush-hush about it but it was the worst kept secret around here for quite a while.

Roger,
Over 14 years we have lost over 100 pounds. My goal each year is to lose 10 pounds, I've averaged about 6. Ginny's is a state secret.

We've done it by eating less, beginning by restricting ourselves to a 200 calorie breakfast, one other regular meal and one light meal. Since we've done this we simply can't eat as much., sort of like belly band surgery though not as severe. After yesterday's lunch we really couldn't eat any kind of supper.

Next time we said we will split one onion ring instead of 4. Since we stop in Charleston most years that will be next year.

Really we are just more conscious eaters. Of course a small trailer with an even smaller fridge, no freezer for ice cream makes it easier to be conscious. My snack now is a couple of teaspoons of pomegranate seeds, calories unknown. (it's almost more work to de-seed one than the calories you get.

Do we cheat. Yes. We eat what ever served when visiting and with others. We go to a Grove in FL that makes the best orange ice cream and of course eat the best multi grain bread ever in Newfoundland.

Since we hit the road our health has gotten better.

Thanks for the though it will keep me moving towards thin.

That was my weight class wrestling in High School. I got back down to it for a few years in my late 20's - early 30's. These days I still have the body of a Wrestler, a Sumo Wrestler.

Tim,

Shockingly to us, it hasn't been too hard to lose weight on the road. There's a sense of peace traveling that makes not eating easier for both of us. In general it seems to carry over when we're home. We do eat more at home but manage to hold our own. The breakfast meal is a constant. For visitors we do cook, but steel avoid wheat products though we serve them to guests.

I still have my copy of their first book. I actually planned (and did) a trip going from one to the next of their suggestions. Had a great time & probably gained 10 lbs!

Jon,
We used to carry a small library of RV books in the motorhome and Road Food was one. We have gone to a lot of them across the country.

I signed up for their app today and will be going to more. Yummy.
