Kitty

Feb 1993 ~ April 2009

Her old body finally just wore out, and I did her the big favor this morning.

As you can see, she loved being in the trailer, and loved camping walkies and sniffs, and lying in the sun in the far too early morning.

It won't be the same without her. I miss her already. Bay and all.

Gina, I am so very sorry. Dogs are such special friends and it's so hard saying goodbye, but I've always found that the joy and love we've had with them is worth the hurt we go through at the end. Treasure the memories of your years together. She was a lucky girl to have such a great "mom"!

I couldn't help but notice, Gina, that your sweet little Beagle stayed just long enough to get you launched as a full-timer. What a good girl! My beagle girl's next sunrise AROO at our campsite will be in memory.

When my parent's first full-timing dog died I was consoling my mom, reminding her of his humble roots as a stray and his high-living years in their Airstream, and she nodded, and sniffled, and said "Freddy did 40,000 miles." I thought it was so sweet that she knew his mileage.

Our condolences.

Three days ago, Misty left me. She was called "misty" because i took her off campus on a rainy day... while she cowered frightened under a car in the parking lot. People dump cats on campuses sure that people like me will care for them. I do not fail them ever. When she crossed over Friday after almost twenty years (estimated) as my loving friend I uttered the following verbatim from a plaque I hold on the wall:

Hear our humble prayer,
O God,
for our friends, the animals,
especially for those who are suffering;
for any that are lost or deserted
or frightened or hungry.

We entreat for them all
Thy mercy and pity,
and for those who deal with them,
we ask a heart of compassion
and gentle hands and kindly words.

Make us, ourselves,
to be true friends to animals
and so to share
the blessings
of the merciful.

Albert Schweitzer

If ever there was a real "I feel your pain" it would be now and I do.

Gina,

I am so sorry for your loss. I'm sure your many years with Kitty were joyful for the two of you. It took great courage and love to "do the big favor" for your dear friend and companion. May your sorrow fade quickly and soon be replaced with all the fond memories of your time together.

Sometimes it's harder when you have more than one, as the survivors know all too well what has happened, even if they didn't witness it. My male is terribly distraught.. maybe because he knows I am upset.. but more likely because he knew something was not right days ago. He has been by her side for several days, only straying to do his business.

The puppy is still too young to get it, I think, but she is subdued a tad as well.

Thanks for the thoughts folks. Anyone that has met me knows these Beagles are as important to me as folks kids are. They are my family.

This is the umpteenth time I have sent a pet over the bridge. It never gets easier, in fact, I think it gets harder with each one. But the years prior to this one terrible day are well worth the price.

Gina,
We've never met in person but I've always felt a connection to you because of your strong love for the beagle "kids." Although her physical presence is gone, her love for you and yours for her will never die. Treasure the memories.
With Sympathy,
Pamela S.

How sad. Dogs are such faithful friends, it is hard to lose them. I am sure that she had a wonderful life with you.

Sincerely,
