Chester, Facebook set up a Safety Check in area for all those in the Fort McMurray area that with a click it posted that they were safe.

If you are on Facebook click the above link and it will show you if any of your Facebook friends or family (you need to be their friend on Facebook for it to work) have indicated they are safe.

Sadly if they lived in town its not likely that many of them had the time needed to hook up the trailer...

Incredibly devastating fire....the television coverage highlighting the kindness and generosity of strangers is overwhelming.

The people of Fort McMurray are going thru our worst nightmare.

It shows us all how life can change in an instant due to natural disasters.

I've been following this story in our local paper. It must be devastating for those forced to leave so suddenly. I also fear that we will be looking at another really scary wildfire season here in the Western part of North America.

My son is in Ft St John, BC and had a fire a couple of weeks ago come near the town but it was controlled. My sister in law's
oldest daughter and family got out of Fort Mac and are now safe in Edmonton. It's looking like a bad year for fires in Western Canada.

What a terrible situation. Pictures on the news this morning looked like apocalypse. Our prayers go out to all affected.

As was mentioned before, our federal government is matching any Red Cross donations made for the victims of the fire. I thought I would provide the link if anyone was moved to donate. I did this afternoon!

It's a miracle in my mind that there hasn't been more loss of life from this.

My son is safe at home. Eventually my 'son from a different mother' was flown out from the north.

We had Alberta smoke for a few days.

A nearby village lost two stores and yesterday the firefighters were kept busy with at least three forest fire events.

Last year we had a huge fire nearby and I really don't want a repeat!
