I nabbed three days off from work and high-tailed it to the mountains for a working vacation. I'd promised my literary agent that I'd deliver my new novel this week. So I parked my Casita beside a mountain stream at Mortimer Campground. It's a Pisgah National Forest campground. No hookups, but a great campground! Very isolated. Don't forget anything, because if you do you're talking about a fifteen mile drive to find gas, groceries, etc. They do have flush toilets and hot showers. At $10 a night, it's a steal!

Bob, love that nice green grass and trees! It sounds like a nice place to write.

Hey! You stole my dream!

Silence, solitude, beauty, and writing. It sounds and looks like heaven.

You brought back some memories. Was there about 18 years ago with just a sleeping bag. Woke up surrounded by bunches of critters all just kinda sitting staring at me. Middle of hunting season and they figured I was a safe haven I guess. Very nice campground as I remember.

I didn't see any furry critters. Mainly because they've installed those bear-proof, raccoon-proof garbage cans. Didn't see any deer, either. But that's a huge deer hunting area. I did see a LOT of wild turkey. Unfortunately they would all dash into cover of the forest before I could snap a photo.

<div align="center">This little guy was about the only animal that would hold still long enough for me to get a good photo. He was on a trail just up the road from the Mortimer Campground.</div>

This waterfall is on a trail that begins in the Mortimer Campground. It takes about four minutes to reach via a very easy walk.</div>

I have a nephew who's a neurologist in New Mexico. I keep telling myself that I need to haul the Casita out there to visit him.
