It might seem rare but I run across one or two three legged dogs a season up in the campgrounds. I have several pictures of them and will see if I can find them. The gal with this one said there is a whole tri-pod community and they get together. Most are rescue animals. You should see that one in this picture run. It was the fastest of the three dogs they had.

Tri-pods are pretty common in the greyhound community (bone cancer is pretty common in large dog breeds).

I once saw a greyhound only 5 weeks after his amputation in a 'fun run' - he was clocked at 38 mph!!!

You might be interested to know that there is a full-timing couple (not fiberglass, tho, but we can let it slide) that keeps a blog about their travels with their 3-legged dog: http://www.liveworkdream.com. It's a fantastic website, and one that's been in my bookmarks folder for a while now.

They also maintain an online community for "tripods".

They write about traveling with special-needs pets, and their story has also been filmed for--I believe--Oregon Public Television.

Another tri-pod

Saw another tri-pod on my 18 night trip. Hiking, biking, berry picken and caving. Saw Bald Eagles pull fish from a lake and a night blooming Primrose open before my eyes and caught it on video.

One of my best friends has a Blood Hound Tripod but it was at the hands of the dogs early run in with a moving car when he was a small puppy.

Josh is one of the speediest dogs I have ever known.
We camp at Toms place in the woods here and throw a ball as far as we can in pitch black darkness and Josh ALWAYS brings back the ball!
The talent is bred into him for sure and it is astounding. He goes out and sets a perimeter and then runs in smaller circles inside it until he comes across the ball.

He does turn better to the right though.

We had a close friend who had a three legged dog.......he use to say that he found him walking out of a saloon in Tumbstone Az.......when the saloon door flew open and Max walked out.....Max said......"I am looking for the man who shot my Pa!"
Max was a great dog!
