tires replace 155 with 175 on scamp 13

Has anyone replaced 155 tires on Scamp 13 with 175 tires ??

The previous owner of my 13 Scamp installed ST175/80R tires from Les Schwab...They have worked just fine for me.Will replace with same.

Thank you for your reply .. I got 3 trailer tires at Walmart for $135 - they did not charge for mounting or balancing ...so I took it ... The old 155's were so old they cracked apart while being dismounted ... I ran the 155's at about 30 lbs of pressure - and will do the same with these 175's .. How about you ?

What's the maximum pressure embossed on the side walls. That's the pressure you should run.

We recently had Firestone put on Primewell Valera Touring BL 175/70R13 on our 1971 13' Boler and it pulls like a dream. We pulled it to Jekyll Island and through the Great Smokey Mountains National Park with no issues. Before that it had a little sway at highway speeds but the previous tires were very old.

To me it seems that these are very lightweight trailers and depend somewhat on the tires ability to absorb minor road irregularities as part of their suspension . Running high pressure would seem to me to inhibit this and to transfer all such irregularities directly to the torsion axle . I have never encountered any difficulty in running at about 30 lbs pressure. If my thinking is incorrect - please enlighten me .

The tire manufacturers recommend side wall pressure for trailer tires. Remember the Ford Explorer and Firestone tire thing. Ford told people to reduce the pressure to get a better ride. That worked well for them, didn't it? Some survived some didn't.
Tire pressure should never be used as part of the suspension, that up to the actual suspension system. Keeping the pressure high ensures that sidewalls are stiff enough to keep the sidewalls from flexing. Flexing side walls result in heat build up in the tire casing and causing blow outs or fires.
I have load "C" tires with a side wall pressure of 50 psi. Right now I have close to 30,000 miles on those tires, without any problems.
Do what you want but you takes your chances.

Put some temperature sensors on the tires and then drive 30 miles on the interstate with the tires at max pressure. Note the readings. Then do the same with the tires at 30 psi. I think you will get your answer.

I am running the tires mentioned above at the recommended tire pressure on the tire.
