I am currently working on a trailer from the other side (It's a sticky). The owner has a huge Dodge Ram 3500 Diesel TV and, while trying to chase down a fault in the factory wiring, I came across this chart explaining towing terms and practices. Even if you don't have a Dodge, the terms and tips are useful:
