Trade in a Scamp?

Just wondering if anyone has Traded in their Scamp. When I did my tour of the factory, the salesman (Jim) asked if I was ready to trade in my 1999 13 footer.
I just smiled and said no - that was the end of it.

Not that I think I would ever do it, but I wonder if anyone had, maybe if you were short on cash and wanted to use your current Scamp as a down payment on a new.

Anyone ever hear of Scamp selling a use trailer?

Perhaps they sell on consignment to put toward your new trailer?

Just wondering about it.

I've never done it, but I have seen fiberglass trailers for sale on craigslist and such, and when I clicked on the link, it was being sold at a dealership. So that makes me think that some have done it.

Trade in a Scamp?

Two years ago I was offered $4,500 for my 2000 16ft Scamp for 19ft Airstream
that was for sale for $49,500 at the Portland store. I still have the Scamp. Not such a good deal.

Yeah, I realize that other dealers would low-ball the value of a Scamp. I was more wondering if the Scamp factory gave a more realistic price for a trade-in. Seems they would be able to unload the used trailer quite quickly, especially with the wait for the new ones.

Of course, the other side is do they want the added liability? Or do they consider a sale of a used trailer by them as a lost sale of a new one?

I just had never even considered that they did this until the question from Jim.

This is pretty ancient history, but we bought a new 5th wheel Scamp 19 in 2004 and traded our 1990 16-ft Scamp. At that time Scamp gave us a $3635 discount for the trade (we bought the 16-ft trailer for about $7000 in 1990).

We ordered a new 13' Scamp today. In Sept. on our way home from Yellowstone, where we tented in 28 degree weather, we stopped in Backus to look at the Scamp facility. I asked the salesman if they sell used campers and he told us they did not. They must be doing fine selling new ones because we will not take delivery of our 13 footer until July or Augut!

Hello Tony,
Times have sure changed. Must be all those boomer folks (like my wife and I) retiring and wanting to buy and travel with their RV's. When we visited the Scamp factory in 2004 there were a number of display models one could see. Not any more.

Lyle..they wont give you anything for a trade

In 2014 we had a 13 with air, solid cherry table and cabinetry (Amish made) see out albums....and the factory would only give $6,300 on trade for a 2014 Deluxe 13 ft with front dinette ($15,250)

We sold it by ourself for $11,500

Interesting post and idea but these TTs are not like cars. With the high demand of used units, the prices they command and how short of time most stay on the market...........why would anyone even think of trading it in?
