Like Good Sam & Escapee's.

Anybunny belong? Are they worth it the cost?

Benefits?

Downsides?

After being screwed by AAA, I joined Good Sam's. I have used their emergency road service on 2 occasions; once when I needed a tow to a dealership (for the car) and campground (for the trailer), and once to locate a welder in a community I was unfamiliar with. Excellent service, well worth the membership.

Downside? Unrelenting hucksterism. I get more junk mail trying to sell me stuff I don't need from them than I do from Publisher's Clearinghouse.

Based on P.C. envelopes I post for my mom several times a week that might drive me crazy. Hopefully, there's an opt out method.

I've had AAA since I was a teen living @ home with great results. I'm sorry your experience was not so.

With the travel clubs like GS and SKP, I was wondering about the camping discounts. That's one thing there's not much of with AAA. Hotels....yes....CG's not so much. Or, at least not at state parks, FS, NP's or Army Corps. CG's.

Love their maps and travel books though.

Thanks for the input.

I have had great results with AAA for my automobiles. They also treated me well with a previous car and travel trailer when I broke down close to home in Southern California.

They refused to honor my "RV" endorsement to my AAA membership in eastern Kansas and in Oregon. That's when I discovered that membership is not with the "American Automobile Association." For me, it is with the "Automobile Club of Southern California." Service is great within your home district, but non-existent for the trailer and very limited for the car once I ventured beyond. Having "RV" on my AAA card was just an extra billing opportunity for higher fees.

They had also been charging trailer service to the car's limit of 4 per year; which the RV endorsement paperwork said trailer service was separate and would not count. It was a very rude awakening along the side of the road.

You know, that could end up being the case for us as well....AAA Carolinas...thanks for the hedzup on that. I had wondered if RV specific wouldn't be something we should look into....time for some research

BTW, AAA of SoCal used to be mine, too....lived my teen & very early married years in coastal SoCal. They used to have the slickest looking magazine with great articles innit. Even used it as a reference for a high school school paper once. Ours here in S.C. is finally beginning to catchup and look more professionally done instead of something by a beginner graphics class.

i switched from CAA to Good Sam 3 years ago.....and haven't regretted it once. CAA did serve me well, when i needed a tow, but when i had it--and it has changed since---they did not cover RV's...just the tow vehicle. when i switched to Good Sam, it was because i would be covered totally, both the car and the trailer. i have used their tow service and found it to be excellent service. now that CAA offers RV service, i will have to do a comparison before i make my next renewal.
