I am in the process of planning a trip to Canada this summer with my Scamp 5th wheel. Is there a problem with the Scamp 5th wheel hitch arrangement (gooseneck/2" ball) in Canada? I heard through some unsubstantiated source that type of hitch may not be legal. Any thoughts from our Canadian members? (Or any others?)

Congratulations on your Olympics hockey game win. That was exciting!!!

Hi there Earl:
I have seen several 5th wheel campers, with a Goose neck hitch on the road and in campgrounds here.
Like your Scamp and older Mobile Travellers, as well as a few other smaller 5th's.

I have not heard this to be a problem in Canada at all?
I can likely check with our Ministry of Transportation here in Ontario, as I am sure they would be able to provide any info related to same?

I will certainly check for you.
Thank you for the Hockey comment, it was an amazing and exciting game, from start to finish.
Was a little nervous at the 24 second mark in the 3rd period though, lol!

Have a wonderful trip.
Cheers, Jake.

What I heard, is it's illegal to manufacture a goose neck travel trailer. Ownership of one is not the problem.

Thank you Brian B-P for joining in the discussion!
“I do not know of any reason why Scamp's ball hitch configuration would not be legal here (Alberta), or anywhere in Canada. A coupler to a ball mounted in the truck bed is a common configuration here, although it is not common for RV trailers. As in the U.S., it is most frequently used for livestock trailers, particularly for horses; some of those horse trailers have horses in the back and RV living quarters in the front. Of course, they usually have 2-5/16" balls and different coupler hardware than Scamp uses, but I still don't see any concern.”

In Quebec gooseneck have the same rule as a regular traile , need safety chain and brakeway switch
I have a link for rules of the road for USA and Canada , state by state and province by provine
On the website you have a requirement for the trailer and main road laws for driving

Rules of the road
