Travel Trailers and Backpacking

Hey everyone, I'm an avid backpacker who is also planning to travel around extensively with my "new to me" Scamp 13 in the next few years.

My backpacking trips generally are from 2 to 5 weeks duration. I have a few ideas on melding these two forms, but was wondering what others do as far as storing the Scamp and TV while out doing other things? It's not difficult finding a relatively secure location to park a single vehicle, but I'm sure the trailer will complicate things.

Do folks resort to placing the trailer in storage at a near-by RV lot or campground? How expensive is that? Just find a friendly business and offer to pay a stipend for parking? I don't think I would be too comfortable leaving the trailer at a trail head, have others done this?

I assume one would have the same problem to solve if you were out traveling and needed to return home unexpectedly. What are the options then that folks have found?

Good question and I'm interested to see if there's anyone around here with experience in that.

I haven't left an RV for more that 3 nights at a trailhead, and even that was tough for me. Depending on where you are, it could be really easy to store it. When I was buying my camper I thought I would need to store it near the Canadian border for a few weeks, so I just googled "rv storage" in towns near the border, got a few places and looked at reviews if they had any, then called one. He had space and was pretty darn inexpensive.

Having never tried this anywhere else I don't know how easy it is, but in the town I happened to be looking at, it turned out to be really easy.

I have found that storage lots don't do daily or weekly storage. But when i trail my motorcycle out to some distant area like RT66, I leave the PU and trailer at a KOA. The ones I have been to in Calif and the Southwest have a storage lot for short or long term parking and don't charge too much. In the past I have paid $3.50 per day. I had a long term storage place tell me that the price was $69.95 ; I could leave it for only one night or one week if I wanted to ! David in Fresno and Sonora.
