Traveling to Mexico? Be Wary of Bandits!
Channel 7 News EL PASO -- A Mexican thief shot and killed an 11-year-old boy as he robbed his family, according to the Mexican newspaper Siglo de Durango.
Rico Banuelas was vacationing with his mother Patricia and his two older siblings when gunmen stopped them on a highway just outside Mazatlan, said Sinaloa police.
As the men took property and money from victims in another vehicle , the driver of the vehicle Banuelas was in attempted to flee the scene. The gunmen opened fire and Banuelas was struck in the head, police added. He died instantly.
Sinaloa state police told ABC-7 they have arrested three men for the murder of the young boy. El Siglo de Dunrango identified the men as Genaro Gallegos Espinoza, Irwin Guerrero Padilla and Rubén Padilla Molina.
The newspaper is reporting investigators found an AK-47 rifle, a handgun, several pounds of pot and stolen items at the residence where the men were arrested.

The family tried to speed past the roadblock, but bandits opened fire on the Volkswagen, fatally wounding Rico and injuring his mother and the driver. Survivors "think there were people up in the trees (shooting) because there were bullet holes in the roof," said Rico's brother, 20-year-old Eddie Bańuelas, who was not traveling with his brother. "All the
windows got broken except one that was rolled down. The driver was shot in the leg, thigh and the back shoulder. They had to drive for 20 minutes. They went to the next little town in Sinaloa, where a family helped them out."
