U Haul ball size and height ???

What size ball do I need to go get my new camper and how high off the ground should the bottom of the ball be? I would hate to get there and have the wrong coupler. The town they live in is very small with no store for 30 miles plus it will be Sunday when I get there.

Kirkman,

I think it is a 2" ball, however wait until the guys pipe in to be sure. I am not sure.

Don't forget that there is a website for uhauls, uhaulcamper.com. I hope that it is open for searching for newbies. There is a lot of information there too. This site is more active for Uhauls, but the historical stuff on uhaulcamper is invaluable.

Pick up an adjustable (Part that inserts into the receiver hitch) and purchase a universal ball assembly (It screws down to the part above and has 3 balls (1 for each size) then you will B ready to tow any trailer.

The sites below will give you a picture so you will know what 2 look 4.

I got this one @ Harbor Freight for 29.95. its a 2" receiver so I don't know if you have a smaller hitch.

My Uhaul takes a 2" ball. But I read somewhere once that they can also be adjusted to take a 1 7/8" but never tested it.

My Ranchero and Voyager have the top of the ball at 17" and tow it pretty much level.

The tow height is between 17 and 18 inches to the top of the ball for my U-haul as well. The empty tongue weight on the U-haul is considerably more than my Boler was - you had to be pretty careful on how you packed the Boler to keep the tongue from being too light - don't think that will be a problem with the U-haul.

I bought this convert-a-ball set at U-haul, and keep it in the Kia. You never know when there's something to tow! It comes with both size balls, and only the shank is permanently installed on the drawbar.
Do note that the shank size is 1"- you must make sure that's compatible with your drawbar!

Well guys every thing went smooth, after I got use to towing some thing so BIG! (I am use to towing my tear drop!) We made it home just fine but boy did we go through the gas. I can only imagine how much gas the big boys go through.

I took a look at your trailer and have a couple questions. Is that your spare tire mounted on the tongue? Has the propane tank and holder been removed? If you can find time to post a photo, it would be much appreciated!!
It also looks like there is has been a round cover installed where the original heat exhaust port was for the furnace next to the door? Can you describe what it is?

Yes that is the spare tire on the tongue.... The propane holder is gone. I think the round cover it some type of pluming vent they put there in place of the heat exhaust the furnace was removed. she was using it for fresh air.

Hey, Kirkman,

Did you buy your CT off Craigslist? I saw one referral from a Craigslist ad here on the forum that should be removed if it is the same trailer. The spare tire looks the same in your picture as in the Craigslist ad.

Do you have a front bathroom?
