UltraGauge Suggestions?

I received an UltraGauge for Christmas (link). It has lots of parameters than be displayed. I know some of you have one or something like it that displays information from the diagnostic port. What information have you found most useful?

Transmission temperature is good to monitor.

It has nothing to do with the Scamp. It connects to the diagnostic port on your tow vehicle and reads out information about the vehicle. It can act as a trip computer (if you don't already have one) and it can do basic diagnostics and clear check engine lights. I like it for instantaneous mpg and the trip computer as well as some of the parameters it can display such as various temperatures, throttle positions, torque, engine load, braking power, etc... I learned about this from others on the forum (Thank You!) and I was curious what others had found it most useful for.

PS It won the award for "Geek's best toy" this year at Christmas. We have a number of engineers and physicists in the family.

I primarily use mine for engine load and Instantaneous Miles Per Gallon. These two items are on the primary screen. I use the instrument to maximize miles per gallon. Also on the front page I have engine temperature, gallons remaining and miles to empty.

I rarely look at the remaining screens but find them handy, particularly distance since oil change.

The biggest disadvantage I found with the Ultragauge is that it doesn't play well with heat. Leaving it in the hot southern sun means it will overheat and alarm, which made it inconvenient for me. I found myself leaving it disconnected and in the glove compartment. Then it got stolen.

i have the Scangauge II and have it setup to read
Volts
Transmission temp
Coolant temp
Miles per gal.

You can have 4 different gauges on at one time. I think it has about 15 different gauges to pick from.

Wish I could do your 2nd setting, but while Toyota must send transmission temperature for the RAV4 (there is an overheat dash light indicator) I've never been able to find the code settings. The code for their trucks doesn't work. I have replaced transmission temp with Miles Until Empty.

My gauge has never had a temp problem. I have mounted mine in front of the gauge window where it is shaded by thr gauge hood. I'll post a pic later.

Ultra Gauge

Ultra Gauge has up to 75 displayable gauges; 18 gauges can be displayed at once on 3 select-able screens.

I mount my gauge in front of the MPG and RPM gauges. I took a piece of plastic track and velcroed it to the bottom of the standard gauge area and slipped it into the track. The gauge is small enough to not block the existing gauges and can be seen easily in a normal gauge glance.

One neat feature of Ultra Gauge is that it reports OBD detected failures before the car computer would report them. The car seems to report things once they've totally failed or failed a number of times where Ultra Gauge reports the unreported 'burps'.

Pictures are not very good, should have been running engine but they show three screens. If anyone wants more detail just ask. We've had ours for a couple of years now and it's worked well and I believe made me a more efficient driver with respect to gas consumption.

Norm, thanks for the mounting pictures.

The latest version now has 7 different screens that can display 4, 6, or 8 gauges on each screen (depends how big you want the text to be). A list of features cut from the user manual is as follows for those who are curious. It can only display information your vehicle provides so all information is not available on all vehicles (see last note below). The website has the vehicle dependent information.

UltraGauge Features

 Supports most 1996 and newer OBDII compliant vehicles***
 Up to 78 selectable English Gauges*
 Up to 46 selectable Metric Gauges*
 New UG Battery Voltage (EM V1.2 or later)
 Real time and long term mileage gauges
 Distance-To-Empty & Time-to-Empty Gauges
 Horsepower and torque gauges
 7 pages of gauges for as many as 56 quickly accessible gauges
 Each gauge page can be individually configured to display 4, 6, or 8 gauges.
 Each gauge page can be enabled or disabled
 Auto-Page advance, cycles through gauge pages
 Each gauge can be assigned to any page and to multiple pages
 The rate at which gauges are updated is configurable
 Configurable low and high alarms for every gauge
 Audible and Visual Alarms
 Alarms may be individually suspended.
 Displays both current and pending trouble codes
 Clear Check Engine Light and Trouble Codes
 Current and pending Trouble Code Alarms
 Automatic fuel fill-up detection **
 Oil change and Service Gauges
 Trip and short trip Gauges
 Health indicator
 Internal Temperature sensor that can be monitored and alarmed
 Closed and open loop indicator.
 Large LCD Display
 Display Brightness adjusts automatically to ambient light
 Lightweight easy to route OBD II cable
 Compact and easily mounted with Velcro or windshield mount
 Low power
 Retains configuration and accumulated data across power cycles
 Automatically detects and turns off display when vehicle is off****
 Comprehensive menu system

* Actual number of gauges supported is vehicle dependent
