Smile Up here in Maine

I don't see much in the way of New England posts and wonder if there are others in Maine who are members?
Also we like to take late season road trips. This year was to Arcadia then cross state to Rangley over an 8 day period staying only in National or State parks (Cost for sites only came to $150) and was wondering if others would be interested in join a caravan type campout with us next year.
Planning to go to the Finger Lakes area in NY.
Also if I get enough respose to this was thinking I could organize and set up a rally around this area in Western New Hampshire for Fall foliage.
What do you think of this.

Hi, do you live in Maine. I didn't understand with the New Hampshire reference. We live in Fort Fairfield. (Way north). I've met a few fg owners, (or wannabe fg owners) I would love to see a rally somewhere around here. Karen

Actually I do check the rally map periodically but somehow they are never in the right place at the right time. For instance, we are planning to be in Nova Scotia next year a week after the get-together and can't change our plans because we are meeting friends and everyone has arranged their vacations already. Once my husband decides to retire, our travels will be more flexible.

We are in eastern NY near Albany. Have a son in the Bangor area and friends in Hope Maine, so we get up there occasionally. Have camped at Camden Hills, Lobster Bouy, Sebago Lake, and a couple places near Conway NH. Finger Lakes are a few hours west of us. Have been to Sampson State Park, NY a few times for a TCT rally and did a Uhaul rally to go along with a Scamp rally there. There was a fiberglass rally along the Hudson River near Albany last month.

I'm very interested in any rallies in the Northeast. Please keep us posted on any plans.

Are border neighbours welcome?

We are often in Maine and travel within the New England states. A rally would be great!
Keep us in mind should you make concrete plans.

I am located in the western hills of Maine near Fryeburg, Just out of North Conway NH. and have worked the past 12 years in campgrounds for the National Forest and in private campgrounds in Maine and NH.
As far as goin into Canada, I tried o plan a trip this year but due to a 1991 DWI, I was given a lot of hoops to jump through and was told it was $200 for forms to gain admissability and all that, with no gaurantee. I just gave up, so Canada was scratched from our travel plans.
Besides there is a bunch o real nice places right here to visit.
All who will want to go, can.
All this is still just a seed to be planted but if it is a caravan type trip it will be mostly at state or national facilities so it may be 2 or 3 nights dry camping followed by a few nights where one would have power.
This is the way we always plan our trips.
Like I said, Just a seed now but will work things out a bit more.

NE RALLY

Considering the distance, time and costs involved with some of the rallies that I have [voluntarily] attended in the past, a gathering in the Northeastern US would be worthwhile. I look forward to any news in this regard. Please keep us posted if anything develops. Thanks.

We might be interested in a rally or two next year. We're in eastern Massachusetts, and attended our first rally in September at the Schodack Island State Park on the Hudson. It was small but fun.

Jane and I camped at a private camping area (the state parks had closed) in North Conway, NH just two weeks ago, so we could take the Conway Scenic Railroad train up to Crawford Notch. I posted an album of foliage and train photos on Flickr, here:

There are some brief descriptions of some photos in the single-photo mode (click on one on the album page, and then you can click through them individually).

There are also two albums of photos from the Schodack Island trip:

Northeastern Rally

Hey Gerry,
Another vote for a New England rally. We live in Connecticut but most of our camping is done in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. We were at the new Schoodic Woods campground in September. A really nice campground in a beautiful area. Most of the sites have hook-ups but there are no showers. My father in law lives in Gouldsboro, my wife was born in Bangor and my mom was from the Ft Kent area so lots of connections to the great state of Maine. A great idea keep us posted. Peace!

We went to the Machias, ME blueberry festival in mid-August, it might make a centerpiece for a rally.

Yes, Norm, the Blueberry Festival might just be a good focal point....you have spoken so highly of this festival to us and we would happily make the trek to it.

Great idea !

A few years ago I did a search thru the membership for rigs within a reasonable driving distance of NE, NY to NB, and found there's plenty of people in the region to have a local fiberglass rally.

PEI has had a successful rally in a much smaller population area.

FRV Members within reasonable driving distance

Of course not all these people have fiberglass trailers but all or have been members of FRV. It provides a first order estimate, about 1600 members.

Speaking of PEI, the Vintage Fiberglass Rally is in PEI next Summer and that's a fun rally.

Date and location are always the major items that affect how many participants there will be at a rally. We are already booked for 3 in 2017, but none are fiberglass trailer related. One is a teardrop rally, although others attend, and the other two are vintage camper rallies. They are always at the same time of year and the same location, so plans can be made way in advance. A couple years ago I tried to set up a Uhaul specific rally after many voiced a desire to have one in NY, only two showed up besides us. Best bet is to pick a date and location as far ahead as possible so those poor souls that are not retired can plan their vacation time. This year we attended the Schodack Island rally, but only by leaving another rally early and arriving a couple days late at Schodack. Fortunately Schodack is only half hour from home.

I never heard of the Shodack Rally. That's a lovely area and I would have been interested.

We only heard about it a short time ahead, a month or so. It was at Schodack Island State Park NY. The park is on the Hudson River and has been there for some time but the campground is new. Bathrooms are new, and they are nice!! Sites are NOT on the water and the river is not visible from the campsites. It's just a few minute walk to the river where there is a boat launch and picnic area. There was talk of doing it again next year.
