US 23 from FL to Macon, GA

Hello All! I am beginning my trip routing plans from FL to TN. So far I have I-95 to US 1/23 all the way to Macon, GA where a KOA is looking pretty good. Actually it's a little North of Macon in Forsyth, GA. I'm looking for a way to avoid Atlanta that wont take me too far out of the way of my destination which is Clarksville, TN. I havent chosen any highways farther than Macon yet so any input/suggestions is appreciated. Trying to avoid Interstates as much as possible w/o adding too many more miles. We're covering the 800 miles in 2 days. I'm guessing Nashville is another city I'll want to avoid. What about Chattanooga? Is that a heavy traffic area too?

Thanks All!

Melissa

Mellissa, when I go to Florida in the winter, I follow I75 south as far as Chattanooga, then get over to US27 which runs west of Atlanta, advoiding all the Atlanta congestion. Anywhere south of Columbus, Ga you can cut across to I75, then south to Interstate10 Florida. I realize you are going north, so would need to look at this route going north. I don't know where you are starting from in Florida, but you will need to go west from I95 to get to Clarkesville, so perhaps this route is worth a consideration.

I have never found the bypass at Chattanooga troublesome although busy. I have never done it, but you can probably catch the exchange for I24 from the Chattanooga bypass.

Thanks, I'll take a look at that! I'm starting on the East Coast of Florida about half way down in Melbourne.
