RV sales see an upswing, reports USA TODAY:
Sales of motor homes and travel trailers are seen by some economists as a leading indicator of the economy's health, because they're among the largest discretionary purchases a consumer can make.

We went "RV shopping" last weekend, I wanted to look at stoves. The two salesmen we talked to said it was slow in the spring and through most of the summer but things started picking up the middle of August.

I don't know about it being a good economic indicator, I personally think people are selling/losing their homes and buying RVs to live in, not for recreation. Th RV parks here in W. Colorado are full of folks that don't look like vacationers to me. And the oil patch guys are mostly gone, they were living in RVs here a lot. Doesn't look good, and I'm in tourist country.

I am seeing some signs of new economic life, though. My trips to Home Depot earlier this year were almost spooky, like I had the whole place to myself. The last couple trips there I've had to wait in line: Not as much big lumber and other large project stuff going out the door, but still the place was buzzing.

Freeway traffic is picking up, too. More cars. More big rigs.
