I have saved a 1993 Issue of the German "OLDTIMER magazine for some VW info and found that the same issue also contained two articles on Towable RV's. I'll post a few pics from the articles every few days. Click on each pic to enlarge.

I just noted they have me down owning a Elite Class C but that is gone a long time ago we now own a Rexhall Vision Class A Fibreglass 25.6' long and love it as just the right size to fit into our yard and has it's own garage built by my wife, neighbor friend and myself.

But, considering that the source magazine was printed in April of 1993, the ones that were listed are probably already sold.(LOL).


If you think Cadets are hard to find, try looking for a NA spec BIOD.

Enjoyed seeing the pictures and layouts of all the vintage travel trailers.
One thing is clear...not much has changed over all these years. Interior appointments all seem very similar to today's offerings. Only advancements seem to be the slide outs we have today and they leak more often than not.
Today we have electronic monitors that give us false info more than actual tank capacities.

A local dealership in West Rutland Vermont is selling a line of Retro Travel Trailers that look better than most new travel trailers. They are built on quality metal stud framed platforms that should last a long time. Most are under 20 feet in length and have the really cool color combinations common in the 1950s.
When I need a new travel trailer they will ne on my list!

Here is a link to a Youtube on the RETRO travel trailers. We looked at them on a dealers lot in Murrieta about a month ago. Interesting, as far as Canned Ham's go, but they didn't engineer out the major problems with sticky's namely; edge seams that will leak, and about 50% more weight that a comparable FGRV. But they are interesting in appearance and have a lot of modern accoutrements not see in the 1950's.


I don't see that slide outs are much of an advancement, as mentioned, they add a lot of leaks and also a lot of weight, not to mention they seem contribute to jobs repairing the drive systems for the local RC dealer.


But, unlike most of us that chose FGRV's, if someone needs the apartment-on-wheels space I guess it's an advantage to them. The Northernlite, 16' with front tilt out, offers an excellent alternative to more space, without the weight and complexity. Here's a link (I Hope):

: building retro Canned Ham trailers different colors but they are out there for sale now, when we drove by their location last spring they must of had a 1000 brand new ready for Shipment and the ones we saw are for sale all over the US and Canada now.

Which proves, to a certain extent, that pretty colors and long lost memories make good sales tools, but not necessarily good trailers. Just to be authentic, they built in all of the shortfalls of the originals from the 50's. Look at them in 10 years.

Hi Stude,

I think the Cadet is now Predom. If you google Predom te koop (=dutch) or

Predom wohnwagen zu verkaufen (=german) you'd find them easily, they are fairly inexpensive, but freight will not be cheap. If you can find one built in 2000 or 2001, you will not have any problems getting it into Canada.

Oh Bob that is my favorite Volvo! While living in Bavaria, we only had the 245 wagon, GM (4?) cylinder diesel. But the older ones were much more beautiful

The 210 panelvan is a 1967
We once owned and raced a number of Volvo's including 445's(2), 122's (3) a 123 rally car, P1800 (Volvo sponsored) and several ea. of the 140, 160 & 240 series.

Here are two others than may become favorites. I have driven both a 445 pick-up and a P-1900.

The white princess (last picture) surely could pull the Extase and the 300. But the 210 panel wagon would be more practical. No idea if they are still around, one in good shape. Searched for my Extase for 5 years, found it just after we had the 3oo shipped.
Who still builds beautiful, practical cars? They all look the same. You are a lucky man have raced and owned such beautiful cars.
